  • TOO Big for Iditarod Dog Sled!!!

Well, Mr. Atkins Diet, I am back again. I lost over 200 lbs. in 1978-1980 and had a tummy tuck operation when they were just starting them. As a man, I was the first the doctor had ever done that surgery on. Well, now I have gained about all that weight back and at age 50 starting over. I am a volunteer with the Iditarod and need to lose a lot of weight before March start of the race. Need support and advise on excercise for my age. Thanks in advance, Grizzly

When was the last time, you did something for the
    first time??

    Welcome Grizzly,

I am a Brit and am unsure what Iditarod is. Could you explain more?

grizzly, i am not sure of the 'data" part of that but setting up pics in siggies and in the gallery can be found by looking through the stickies in the FAQ's and in the Testing and Technical forums.

i'm running hither and yon so i hope you can find those. if not. let me know and i'll fetch the links for you.

Welcome Grizzly! You'll love it here at the ADBB! Lots of support and wonderful people!
Do you have the book? Most of us here use the 2002 copy of the DANDR.

Will you be driving a sled in the Iditarod? What breed of dog do you have? I used to work at a kennel with Alaskan Malamutes and would help train them to pull the sleds - "gee" "haw" is about all I recall - I was 10 at the time!

For exercise - I do the Walking Away the Pounds (WATP) tapes. Thats a good start -

            Good Luck! And again Welcome!

              Grizzly, welcome!

That is awesome that you are part of the Iditarod. Have you done this for many years?

You will learn so much by reading these posts. And pick up a copy of Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution (2002)--this will explain the science behind the plan, why it works, and how you can change your way of eating and exercising.

Lots of luck, looking forward to seeing your posts!

Good morning!! Day 3 with no carbs. Eating eggs, bacon, cheese, shrimp and sorry but, killing myself with caffeine. Will be putting some pics on from 2004 iditarod for those who asked. I am a certified dog handler during the race. NOT A MUSHER IN THE RACE!!! Didn't want confusion. We handle the extra dogs waiting to race at the drop points and at the start in Anchorage and Willow Or Wasilla, Ak. Then during the race, as dogs drop out, we fly them back to the prison in anchorage for the prisoners to care for until mushers finish race.

This site is perfect for motivation to keep you focused and know that, you are not alone at dieting to let that smaller person out of your shell or in Grizzly's case Grizzly's Den. Thanks in advance to everyone for support.
