  • Taking the plunge into Atkins

I found this board a while back and I've been lurking a little and getting familiar with it. There are some incredible weight loss success stories here. I think it's time I take the plunge and give Atkins a try. I'm so tired of being overweight and if I start now, I know I can be in those jeans shorts next summer that I have always wanted to wear.

I've chosen next Wednesday as my official start date. It will be November 1 and the beginning of the new me.

(This is actually kind of scary. But I can do it.)

Welcome, Mystical. Yes, you CAN do it. I'm sure that many of us on this board would say, "If I can, anyone can!" I'm definitely in that boat.

I think what will amaze you most is how Atkins help you control your hunger and cravings. The first week or so can be a little rough, but then one day, it's like you wake up and it's magically out of your system. It's amazing, really. And this is coming from a MAJOR carboholic...

If you haven't read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, I urge you to at least start it before you start induction. This board provides lots of great info, but the book is the Atkins bible and basis for everything that's discussed.

Best of luck to you. I hope to see you around the board!

      Thank you, Adena!

I hate to admit this, but I have the book and it's been gathering dust on my shelf for a long time. But the dust has been blown off and I've been reading it. This really looks like a great plan and I can't believe it's taken me so long to really look at it!

Good for you -- reading the book is a great first step. Honestly, when I'd hear Atkins people talk about not being hungry, I always assumed it was in their heads. That they had just convinced themselves they weren't. And that it would never be the case with me. Well, I'm here to tell you it's TRUE. I've tried so many diets, and I know we all have, and I've never felt less deprived as I do with this way of eating. I promise you, it works!

If you haven't checked out fitday.com, you may want to. It's free, easy, and a great way to track your food and make sure you are getting the right percentages of fat, carbs, and protein that DANDR (short for "the book") recommends.

Don't be scared! You have come to the right place. Please start reading your book about induction. It's really important to have a clean induction so your body can rid itself of carb-cooties! You can do this!
