  • Hi, I am new here!

Hi I am a 35 year old woman who is trying to desparately loose 30 pounds for a special event in 8 months. After trying everything, I have decided to give atkins a try. This is my first day and so far so good. I am so happy to have a place I can come to for support. Please give any advice as I am very new to the literature and program/lifestyle.

welcome to ADBB and to ATKINS.
first bit of advice is to make sure you have the 2002 edition of DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION as that was the last edition Dr Atkins created before he died. read it cover to cover to understand the whys of the program as this will help you understand what consequences a little extra carbs can have.

Pay cloes attedtion to chapter 11. make a copy of the acceptable foods lists. there is a foldable wallet sized one lostandfound made for us in the stickies you can print off.

The hardest thing for new Atkineers isn't giving up the high carb junk food as much as it is grasping the concept of feeding only thier hunger every time they eat and not because they got room in their belly to hold more food, legal food on the plate and/or carbs in the budget. Once you learn to feed only hunger you will be a successful Atkins loser for life.

rememeber exercise is a mandatory part of Atkins. checkout all our exercise challenges and then find some you like and want to join and jump in with a hi I'm new post and you are in.

Welcome to the board and Atkins. Focus on getting the eating down first. I would suggest you memorize the AFL (Acceptable Foods List) and get acquainted with a food/exercise diary site, like Fitday.com. That way you can never plead ignorance that you didn't know something wasn't ok. I would also suggest you measure yourself now as well, so you can fully document the success you are going to have.

Hi gettingskinny! You can do this! There is so much information on the board an I agree with all of the above posts. Really learn the rules of induction and by the time you've completed 2 weeks of no carbs, you will easily slide into the rest. This is a wonderful way of eating and a way of life, because when you lose your 30 pounds, you will want to continue eating this way!
