  • So Happy To Be Here

Hi, Everyone! My name is Ellie. I have been on Atkins for a week now. I have done Adkins before and have always been happy with the results...so why in the heck don't I just make it a way of life? Well, I have just learned from being on this board that it has been because of the lack of support. I have "lurked" here for about a week since I found this BB. I am quite impressed with the support available. I have lost five pounds in the week that I have been back to the Adkins Way. I know some of that is attributable to decreased water retention brought on by carb poisoning. But who cares, my clothes fit better already and I have lost a lot of puffiness. That by itself is wonderful. I am a Mom of seven wonderful kids. My boys are all grown and gone (not far) and my four girls are still at home. I have a very supportive husband. So, I keep pretty busy.

But because fo that "busy-ness" I sometimes don't take of myself like I should. Joining this BB and getting back to a better way of eating is a first step in taking better care of myself. I'm a shortie, only 5'. I have 30 lbs that I would like to bid farewell to forever!!! I have always battled my weight, but enjoyed a great period from 1980 to about 1995. Then it began to slowly creep. I want my weight to not be the focus of my busy life, I have so many other things to do that I love, so, I am really determined to make this work for me and I think this time I might just do it because of the good company I will be keeping here!

Welcome, Ellie! I've been here about a week myself and finally started my induction yesterday so we're just about the same. And I'm a fellow shortie! Any questions you have there's always someone here who can answer them, this place is great.

Wow... 7 kids must keep you really busy! I'm glad you're doing this for yourself and think about all the energy you're going to have to keep up with them!

Thanks Mystical and Desertthorn for your replies...I am definitely looking forward to finding my way around this BB. This is the first time I have been on a bulletin board of any kind. I am pretty much of a novice. I like those little tickers. Hopefully I'll get one movin pretty soon!

Welcome Ellie! ADBB is a great place for support and good advice. So glad you found us!
You'll soon be a big loser if you eat the way Dr A recomended. In a nutshell...

Low carb - 20g or under in induction
Exercise - as much as you can, gently increasing
Water - tons and tons of it
DANDR - 2002 edition, which is the one the board goes by

                Happy low carbing!

Re: So Happy To Be Here

Thanks everyone. I feel right at home and it is so much fun going to the different forums. I had a very weird experience today....I am very conscious of making sure that my family doesn't waste food. Well, usually I finish whatever the kids don't (and then i wonder why I need to lose 30 lbs!!!!), but tonight at dinner, I had fixed me a salad and couldn't finish it which NEVER happens! Anyway, I pushed my plate away thinking I'd save it for lunch tomorrow, when my two youngest daughters asked if they could have my salad!!!! Now is that the shoe on the other foot or what? I can't believe what a difference this way of eating makes for me. I feel great! I think with all of your encouragement and advice, this is going to be a fun ride!
