  • Hi from Virginia!

Hi, I'm new to your board and I was thrilled to find it! It's hard to be on a diet and not have the support. This board seems to be full of encouragement and information!

I started induction on 10/30 so I'm on my second week now. I've lost 5.5 lbs. I was on Atkins years ago and lost alot but gained it all back and more. I lost quicker back then too.

I'm 52 years old and was wondering if you lose more slowly when you're older?

But anyways, I'm glad to be a part of this board!!!

Hi KP! So glad you've found your way to this board! Congrats on your losses so far. Um, me being an "older" person such as yourself, I do believe we lose weight somewhat slower. However, in the grand scheme of things, slower loss is a better, longer lasting loss!

            Re: Hi from Virginia!

Welcome. Congratulations on the 5.5 pounds. As one of the 50 + wiser bunch, I haven't had a problem with being older and losing the weight. I found if I kept active, did my exercises and followed the WOE - the weight came off sometimes slow and sometimes faster. Everyone's body is unique and the only thing I can tell you honestly is that it does come off.

The people here are great for support and motivation. Get involved in the forums, check out the challenges. Having the friendships of people who care about your success and share your goals is what makes this board so special. I couldn't have done it without the people who have shared my journey with me.

Hi Kplourde... and welcome to ADBB! This is the greatest place to learn about the Atkins WOE, get lots of tips, not to mention support and encouragement. Congrats on your loss so far!

Hey! I'm the exact same age as you are! And... yes for me it certainly was a case of "older means slower"...but it wasn't that much slower and it certainly wasn't harder. I lost nearly 45 lbs in eight months. Seemed slowish at the time, but now that I look back from maintenance, it seemed to pass in a flash.

I'm sure it'll seem the same for you when you reach goal... and make no mistake... you will if you follow this way of eating in the manner that Dr A advises.

              Happy low carbing!

                Re: Hi from Virginia!

Thank ya'll soooo much for the welcome! I haven't received my book yet - should be in tomorrow! I'm looking forward to reading it. I've been going through the Induction forum and reading all the posts. I can see that I've been on the right track!! I'm so thankful for this support board. Now I know why I had the horrible headache last week It all makes sense.

The wealth of info here is unbelievable. Thank you to all the admins and mods who have made this possible for someone like me. I just want ya'll to know how much I appreciate it!

I didn't see an answer to my question, however, in the induction forum. Do I have to eat snacks in mid morning and mid afternoon? ... or just when I feel hungry?

                  Re: Hi from Virginia!

You do not HAVE to eat mid morning and mid afternoon. It is thought that if you keep fuel in your body throughout the day you will remain satisfied. If you're satisfied and don't get over hungry, there is less chance of a slippage! Additionally, it is important that you do not go more than 6 hours without some food!

You will love reading the book, you will become a pro at low-carbing!
