  • It is finally time!

    Hello all,

I have been lurking for a couple hours and figured I would sign up and make it a go on the boards. I am a 36 year old husband and father of three (5y/o boy, 3y/o girl, 20 m/o girl). I work in a position that is famous for being overweight (besides freebasing comedian) and I work terrible hours.

I tried Atkins in Late May and lasted until early July and lost 22 pounds relatively easily, but failed to meet my goal before falling off the wagon. My newly rediscovered self-image plunged. My diet went from bad (after Atkins) to worse in the weeks leading up to the realization that I NEED A CHANGE. I knew I was consuming large quantities terrible food and that I was going to pay for it. I ended up starting the diet again - right where I was when I first started.

My wife and I decided to take before and after photographs of ourselves throughout this process. We took our pics when the kids were gone on Saturday and I am very ashamed. I was never "little" but since I was 18 I haven't weighted less than 190 pounds. Based on my height that is the "high end" but it would be a suitable size for my frame (not being cocky but I am built like a bodybuilder - I have a large chest - not talking b bs).

As I get adjusted to all the abbrevations and what not (who reads the FAQ anyway). I will just tell my story of how things are going and what I am eating.

But first and foremost THE GOAL!!!

My Initial Overall Goal Weight is ~ 185 pounds
My Starting Weight was ~ 242 pounds
My Median Goal Weight is ~ 205 pounds (when I hit this it will be all downhill).
I am 5'10" tall MALE (if you hadn't guessed).
    Started on November 6, 2006.

    To date:
I have had three good days of induction - some hunger but nothing I can't live with. Less than 20 carbs easily. On Monday I ran .7 miles and walked .7 miles. On Tuesday I ran a mile. Wednesday I had to work until 1am so I am planning on and will do 40 sit-ups when I get home.

I am curious if any males read the board regularly? If so what exercise routine do you do?

    Talk soon,

    iafalconer

(moderator - I will keep my journal on the correct board)

          Re: It is finally time!

Hi iafalconer, welcome to the boards. It sounds like with the unusual and late hours your biggest focus will probably be in planning. I noticed that you said that you have had a little hunger over the past 3 days, if you are hungry go ahead and eat. But before you do drink a full glass of water and wait 10-15 minutes and it may have been you are just thirsty, but if you are hungry go ahead and eat off the induction list within your carb count. Doing this will stave off cravings and binge eating. Great work on your exercise. As many have said, any questions just go ahead and ask. Also, if your wife does a lot of the cooking or has questions on what she can make for you, have her pop on also, we'd be happy to help her help you.

          Have a great day.
May you all be losers, Sher

Hey iafalconer! Welcome to the board. It's wonderful that you're into the full swing of things and have a handle on your eating.
There are quite a few men around here, I see Higgies has introduced himself already. There is a men's forum as well, you can send a PM to richt and he can give you permission to be part of that forum! Being a girl, however, I gotta say, we too are a plethora of information and support!
