Not sure I'm in the right place...this is my first post.
Hi folks, my name is sheddy. Glad there is a UK specific thread/forum for this as I was losing patience with trawling through all the USA posts and not finding out answers to my specic questions.
    Firstly:

Q1. On Saturday I was cooking prawns for my kids and myself and couldn't find any curry powder so realising that they used to like prawns cooked with tomato puree/ketchup, I decided to do it that way. Tottally forgetting I was 3 days from the end of my 2-week induction, I ate the prawns with brocolli, asparagus shoots and salad while they had it with rice and potatos. I'm sure I'm not allowed to have ketchup...doea that mean I need to do the whole induction again?

Q2. Reading the book, I noticed that we must avoid meat cured with sodium nitrates etc. To my knowledge that includes hams, bacon etc. I have not eaten any ham/bacon since day 1 of the induction because of the above fact...am I doing the right thing? Also are we allowed to eat sausages...I'd love to but most/all I have come across have breadcrumbs in them!

Q3. Also I have been very hungry on most days and to curb my hunger I have been either eating cheese, drinking water or just having more food....and I doing the right thing?

    Re: Help

    Greetings.

Nice to have another man around.

I will leave some of our well informed ladies to answer your menu questions.

They are best posted in the general sections that everyone reads. I see you also posted in the UK space - that's a relatively slow area - it's best to post only National Specific questions there like "Can I get it from ASDA or Boots"

You might like to join the men's forum - not that busy because we aint as chatty as the girls. You have to apply to join and you must declare yourself male in your signature - the signature block would do just as you have it

a picture would be nice and weight doesn't mean much without height.

I have recently moved to Germany with the British Army, so I am really a UK member.

    Welcome.

I am sure Rich, our UK admin will respond.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

      Re: Help

welcome to ADBB and sausage you can find with ingredients legal ofr your phase is legal to eat so those with bread crumbs are out.

on Atkins we eat whenever we are hungry since drinking water is satisfying your hunger you could be experiencing signal spillover as thirst and hunger controls are next to each other in the brain. if you drink water and it goes away you were not hungry so drink your water and if in 20 min you are still hungry eat some legal food there is no daily caloric limit because Dr Atkins knew as we feed ourt hunger some days we would eat very little and other days we would need a lot.

if you just gad tomato purree with no sweetners then you are still cheat free doing fine
if it had sugar then you need to watch yourself for any extra food wanting as a result BUT you never restart the 14 days unless you have been off binging for weeks. the sole purpose of our 14 days is to discover how much you CAN lose doing Atkins correcty and to alow you to see what your metabolic ressitance level is and what your future CCLl will be other wise induction would only need to be one week since all carb store will be gone from our bodies in that time period and we are in ketosis.
      just carry on.

      Happy low carbing

        Re: Help

        Hi and welcome

If I was you I'd try to stick 100% the induction - ie no saugages!! hehe! I tend to eat alot of chicken and pork!! I've got a thing at the moment for pork smothered in mayo - it tastes soo nice!! Read the recipe section for tips and ideas.

Try to start exercising also! I find it really speeds up the weight loss! Plus you feel so much better in yourself too!

I cant wait to see how you've done on induction

        Good luck,

Hi Sheddy! Welcome to the board!

It sounds to me like you're doing everything correctly. I know it's hard to find sausages without flour in them, and most bacon has nitrates and is cured with sugar as well. You might try an internet search for sausages, or find a sausage maker and request some be made with out extra carbs in it!

Good catch with the ketchup, you will see that when into this WOE, you will be very cautious when reading labels!

              Re: Help

Thanks all for your support. Ive realised I have come down from 97 kgs to 90 kgs since the start of August although I have just finished the 2 week of induction. I was 90kgs on weds when I last went to the gym, so hopefully another 1kg will have dropped off. I am continuing with the induction phase tfn. I reallt want to get down to 79/80 kgs...about 175ilb in old money, or 12 1/2 stone. I'm off to the gym in a few minutes and will update you on the scale reading!!!

Does anyone have any idea how to brighten up breakfast? It's the only meal of the day I don't look forward to beacause at the moment it just seems to be EGGS and I'm getting sick of them?

                Re: Help

Sheddy, you don't need to have traditional breakfasts. A lot of people here actually have cold left overs from their meal from the night before.

Or you could go down the european breakfast route of cold ham and cheese?

                  Re: Help

A fav breakfast of mine is leftover cold meat and avocado with salt and a splash of wine vinegar.

Many congrats on your losses so far! Isn't it great to see those kilos melt away?

Remember, when you get nearer to goal, to make the move to OWL in time to experiment with the extra food choices and how they affect you. This takes time, but will set you up for a lifetime of maintaining your target weight. And on OWL, rest assured, you do still lose (many lose more with the addition of extra veggies).

                  Happy added losing!

Thanks Rich. I have thought of the cold breakfast thing, but most if not all hams contain preservatives I thought? The sodium nitrates or sugars I thought were banned?

Appreciate the support Sally, thanks. I have tried the avocados...love them, but guess what I had them with!!! EGGS
I think I'll try the left overs for a while and see how that goes, thanks.

I like mayo w/ turkey slices rolled up for breakfast! Quick, easy and yummy! Yes, you have to get creative with breakfasts, or the eggs tend to take over!

Sheddy, there is some ham out there thats ok. It tends to be the premium stuff mind you.
