Hmmm... there are so many answers I can think of.
1. "Well, it's up to you. It's your body and if you want to stay fat all your life that is entirely your choice."
2. "Well, it's up to you. It's your body and if you want to stay addicted all your life that is entirely your choice."
3. "Oh my God, you're exactly like me!!!! I was totally addicted to and dependent on wheat products and never believed I could give them up, either! And yet it was really easy. Now I am glad to be in control of what I eat and not a hopeless addict."
I've never used any of these, it's just my ideas. What I have done in real life is simply bought a copy of DANDR and handed it to a morbidly obese friend who told me she could never stop eating bread: she ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, plus snacks. Three months later she emailed me (she moved 500 miles away) and said she was on Atkins and doing well. Never heard from her since.
