I am 47 and need to lose 80 to 90 pounds. I see on here that some people lose it fast and some lose very slowly. I was wondering why?
I did Atkins 5 years ago, not because I read the book, or even heard of Atkins, but because a business associate told me what to do and I did it, but now that I have read the book, I realize that all I did was the induction part. Back then, I lost 70 pounds in 2 months. I felt the best of my life. I went off of the diet then, but stayed pretty low-carb and never gained any weight back, though didn't lose anymore either.
After a couple of years I became very ill and was told by a dietician that the diet I did was Atkins and that it was very bad for me. I was diagnosed with diabetes and given a high-carb diet to follow (?????????? what are they THINKING???) I began eating more carbs and gained back most of the weight and got sicker and sicker. The medication made me very ill too.
A year ago, I went off the medication and was eating low-carb, but not Atkins. I lost 10 pounds and managed to keep my blood sugar fairly close to normal, but I need to really lose all of this weight. I am having some heart problems now. I hope not serious, the tests are not yet back.
Five weeks ago I went on the induction phase of Atkins. I didn't lose a thing until the third week, then lost 10 pounds. I stayed on induction because I didn't think I was losing very well. The fourth week I gained 8 pounds back. I checked the book, which I finally read last year, and found that the only thing I was doing wrong was occasionally having some lunch meat, but that is a preservative thing, not a carb thing.
Week 5, I was ordered to do a glucose test by my doc, so that blew the diet. I have decided to start up again after Thanksgiving, but I really need to know what went wrong. Why did I not lose the weight this time and why did I gain weight back?? I really did not see that I had done anything wrong. Can anyone help me with information?
Sorry this is so long. Thank You
