Yes that is great. Ketosis is yes or no so even if it shows a trace it is a yes.

You should expect to lose about 10% of total weight in induction. So if you need to lose 50-70 lbs you are perfect. I lost a lot less during induction I am a slow looser. Do you measure? It is far more accurate

Welcome to ADBB Rareflabird! Yes, ketosis is ketosis no matter how deep or light the purple! THe amount of water you drink can affect the reading too. The more water you drink, the lighter it can be.
Congrats on your losses so far!

            Hello RareFlaBird,
I was certainly happy to see your post. I am having the same sort of problem. I am trying to find out why and I am starting all over again from the beginning and going to be much more strict, even though I haven't found that I was doing something wrong to start with, though I must have been. I am going to post several typical days eating in the forum that critiques your menu choices and see if I get more info that way. In my introduction I only got 2 replies, mostly to say I must have done something wrong. So, I am on the search for what it was. I don't see it in the book. If you get any info, please pass it on to me.
            Thanks and Good Luck!

While the good Doctor gives us tool, it is only a tood and for some of us it never shows even a trace of ketosis, so don't use that as a guide to losing weight. And you can also register dark purple and also not be burning body fat. Its just not a good tool to use. Instead the tape measure is a good indicator and if you didn't measure before induction, I'm sure in the back of your closet there is a tight fitting pair of jeans, try them on when your discouraged and I guarentee a smile.

Ketostix only measure a certain type of Ketones, and from what I gather, there is more than one. The color of your Ketostix can vary according to the amount of water you drink (which could dilute the ketones in your urine), whether you have eaten or exercised recently, or just whether or not the ketones that are in your urine are registering. Some people don't register at all, some register easily. But, as people have already told you, pink is pink, and ketosis is ketosis. Ketostix are unreliable. The true test is whether or not your are losing weight. Also, "ketosis breath", a sweet taste and smell in your mouth, is an indicator.

Good luck. You're doing fine. Don't concern yourself too much with the stix.

Re: Ketosis..I have been on Atkins about 16 days

I have seen this diet work for normal people. You have to remember we didn't put this weight on in a day, and its going to take us quite a while to take it off. Do you feel better eating this way? From everything I've read and seen, you do feel better & the times I've tried this, the only reason I didn't lose to my satisfaction was because I somehow sabataged myself. The other poster gave you a really good idea, one I think I'll use if you don't mind. If this happens(I start again on ATkins tomorrow), I am most definately going to post everything I'm eating & drinking so that these wonderful folks can help me. I look around at all of these stories where people have lost wayyy over 100 lbs and I know these folks are "normal just like me" so I know if they can, I can. I have lurked on these boards for years, even when I wasn't even trying to do Atkins, simply because people here are so inspiring. Don't get down that you aren't losing. Try some of the thing they have suggested. Try to measure inches if the scales aren't going your way. Usually you lose inches when you don't lose pounds...at least, it s that way for me. I hope things go better for you, Anne

I'm sorry you're struggling today. I'm curious, do you have any idea how many calories you're currently eating? In the grand scheme of this WOE, calories do count somewhat. Too little, as you know, and you will hold onto your weight. Too much, and again, you will not lose. I think you just need to find the right intake for yourself.

Another good idea is to post in the "review my menu" section for a few days. Perhaps something you may or may not be doing will jump out at other people and then you could tweak your eating to see if you can kick start the loss.

Hang in there, this happens to the best of us. The weight will come off, and as someone else said it didn't come on in a day, it won't come off in a day either!

Re: Ketosis..I have been on Atkins about 16 days

Keep on eating the Atkins way. Keep exercising (ultra important). Keep drinking masses of water. Read DANDR 2002 edition cover to cover, if you already haven't.

Sillygirl's advice is good... post your menus for advice. Sometimes it's just a little thing that's the spanner in the works.

If, after several weeks (definitely more than a month) you still aren't losing while doing everything correctly, then look to other reasons like candida or thyroid probs.

Losing does take longer when your metabolism has slowed down due to yo yo dieting, but eventually, your body will get the message and it'll happen.

                          Hi RareFlaBird,
Don't get discouraged. I want the fat to melt away too! Just focus on following the diet and don't worry about the weight loss. I just started too and I don't see the dramatic results I read about, but that doesn't mean we're not going to be successful. I'm going to follow the advice that you were given and keep a food journal. We are no different from anyone else we just have to say committed. Good Luck and be strong!
                          Sincerely,
                          Dee
