    Hi Folks,

I just started atkins about a day ago. My biggest and toughest thing to do so far has been giving up coffee. The first few days i had bad cravings and also cheated a couple of times.Just woke up one day and decided i have been trying to lose weight for a long time and if i dont do it now, there will never be a perfect time. So far i am doing fine. I ordered a weeks menu from the atkins at home website and food is going good. I have not yet weighed myself. I am going to give my self till the end of next week. The other day though i had some black beans, i know it says if the food is not there on the acceptable list then dont eat it. i had maybe 3-4 teaspoons of black beans and i am hoping it does not throw me out of ketosis. I'll know better next time. It really nice to see so many people share their stories and experiences, it makes a lot easier on a lot of us who are starting it for the first time.
My goal is to lose 25lbs. I weigh 135 and am 4 10" tall.
    Started 7/2/2008
    Weight : 149
    Goal : 110
    Mini Goal : 130

Good luck! Are you done with the coffee yet? It was hard for me too, but the best thing I did was quit cold turkey. Headache for a day, but then its gone and you have way more energy, believe it or not, without the caffeine! Hope things go well for you!

It is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I wish you the best of luck and hope you become involved in the forum and keep us posted on your progress. Hi jsureddi. Welcome to ADBB. I think you may need to wait on having the beans for a little while longer, but I'd say you are off to a good start. This forum is full of information and very helpful people. You will find your food list in the Induction section.

I agree with you that there is never a better time like today to start. Keep at it--you are already on your way! Babs

Hey jsureddi! Welcome to the board! I'm confused, you started a day ago, are eating Atkins meals at home, how did you happen to eat black beans? Don't fret over it, it sounds like you learned to really watch what you eat! After a day you will be back in ketosis, drink lots of water in the meantime.

Dreamof145 asked, and I'm going to ask as well, do you have the DANDR book? If not, it's important to read it so that you know the science behind this way of eating, and also it will help you along your way!

Keep on posting so we can know how well you're doing!

Hi Jsureddi! Welcome to ADBB. Glad you found us here.

Yep... pass on the beans (at least for the moment!) You'll be able to eat them when you're a bit up on the OWL rungs. Sounds like you found that out though.
Drink lots and lots. Exercise as much as you can, and keep to under 20g carbs of the acceptable induction foods. You'll find the pounds will melt away pretty quick!

You couldn't make a better investment than getting hold of DANDR 2002 edition. As Sillygirl says, you need to understand the science behind this way of eating.

Look forward to hearing about your losses!

Thanks for all the support guys. I think i have a better idea of what to eat and what not to.
I am eating some of the atkinsathome meals, only some taste good. And i do go out atleast once in a week to lunch or dinner. I have a copy of the book and i will defenitely read it. It has been going good so far.
The first day i was cranky and irritated, but after day two i was in control of my cravings for coffee and i think i feel better now.
I usually work out with a trainer twice a week, and after i started my diet i realised that the weights i used to lift earlier felt heavier this time around. I feel good though, and i have lost about 3 pounds so far.
