I need to lose weight and I can't fool myself anymore. I looked around and there's a lot of good information here. I've never tried Atkins before so I guess I have a lot of learning to do.

Hello. Welcome. This is definitely the place to get lots of information on changing your life-style so that you can become healthier and lose weight. You'll meet lots of people who are sharing their journies in order for you to achieve yours.
I'd recommend you read the book, Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revoluton, edition 2002. It will explain how the program works, the phases of following the program and motivate you to make it happen for you. Make sure you take measurements as well as recording your weight, as its very motivating to see the inches melting away as well as losing pounds.
Being active with others who are achieving success was the key for me. You aren't alone. Keep us posted on your progress....we'd like to help you celebrate your success.Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

!! You came to the right place, that's for sure. This is (IMHO) the best place for support and information regarding the Atkins way of life. As was said, you should still read the book! I know, more studying, but it really is a wealth of information.

The book you need is DANDR 2002 edition. Not sure about colour as I believe there are several. Mine is white with a blue and red title.

Yes, that's right. Fruits come later in this way of eating... in OWL (ongoing weight loss). There is too much sugar (carbs) in fruit for induction.Before and after:
