  • Well on my way, but a newbie to the site

    Hello to all!

I'm a newbie in the Atkins forums, but started living my new Atkins life (as I call it) the first week of Aug 2006. Have lost 38lbs so far, and hope to lose about 100lbs or so at the end. I've been a typical yo-yo dieter my whole life and instead of learning good eating habits and committing to exercise, starvation was my way to drop unwanted lbs (not anorexia, just super small meals with one day of gorging a week as a "reward"). In my 20s, that worked, but after 2 kids and now and in my mid 30s, no such luck. Besides being totally unhealthy, it's just dumb. I started creeping back up the scale in 1998 and continued until March 2006 when I was 6 months pregnant and got weighed in at the doc's at 246lbs. It was shocking, and I realized that if I don't do something with my life after the baby comes, I'm going to reach this weight-without the baby inside-all on my own.

I live in Central America and fortunately Atkins doesn't require special foods. It's REAL food that I've been missing my whole adult life like real butter, oils, and meat which are so much more satisfying than low fat/diet anything. Moderation has become my middle name and yet Atkins has never left me hungry.

Right now, I'm suffering a bit from the induction hair loss (my reason for finding this forum), but have started taking a hair vitamin that seems to have slowed the loss down.

This is a great site. Now that I finally got my ketone strips from the States to help guide me plus this forum for inspiration, my journey will get even better. I sincerely hope my posts (along with everyone esle's) help motivate that quiet lurker unsure about how or when to start. Honestly, after having my 2 kids, there were no more excuses to remain overweight. Tennis has become a passion and gone are the foot and knee pains, the 3pm headaches and desperation for an afternoon nap that I could never take with the kids.

    I'm a believer!

    Thank you

Thanks for the welcome, floydgirl. Actually, I read a lot of your posts because our weight profiles are very similar.
