  • Totally new, totally clueless..

I just wanted to say hello to all of you, Ive enjoyed readong your posts.. they are very helpful, friendly, and informative. My friend told me about this site, and I decided to come check it out. As of January 3rd (day after my b-day!) Im really going to need your all's help!! Ive never done Atkins before, and I dont know a whole lot about it, other than you all look AMAZING!! My friend, we'll call her... hmm, what shall we call her..? .. "AM", has done atkins before, and lost a good deal of weight on it, I think it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 pounds. So Im going to have her to guide me thru this. I think that the more people I have helping me, the better (and easier!) this might be for me.
I am 23 (almost 24!), and I currently reside in Greenville, Mississippi. I was born and raised in Alaska, where I met my husband, who is in the CG. We got stationed here this summer, and will be here 'til the summer of '09. This is where "AM" comes in! She's also a fellow CG wife, and a great person.. talk about inspiration!! Im glad I have her and all of you to help me with this, because I have NO idea what Im doing. I just know that I am barely 5'3, and the last time I got weighed was about a month ago, at the doctors office, and I was 189lbs. Im just not healthy. Id like to lose 50-60 pounds. I need to do something!! Thank you for reading!!

Glad you're here, its a great place to be. Use this time before your birthday (I'm assuming that's when you're starting, or did I misunderstand?) to read the book and get acqainted with what's going on! Good luck!

You've got it exactly right!! I figured if I gave myself a few weeks to read, and get as much information as I can I'd be much better off than throwing myself in to something Im unprepared for

I'm guessing you're going to be starting January 3rd 2007 and not January 3rd 2006, right? Cause if not you're a year late! *giggles*

Welcome to the board AlaskanPrincess.... you'll do just fine! But let me ask you something, if you're already dedicated to living this WOL now, why wait until January 3rd to start? do you have any idea how far down you could be between now and then?

Lol, yes, in 2007! We've just moved in to a new house, and Ive got plans to be gone for the end of December to the In-laws, and I know next to nothing about Atkins. I did consider just jumping right in to it.. but with the stress of moving, the stress of a raod trip with a 2 year old, and .. well, just kind of being out of my darn element with all the changes in my life right now, I didnt want to add on yet another big change. I think that if I give myself some time to gather some information, and mentally prepare myself I will have more willpower to see this thru. I've never dieted before.. Ive never ever been skinney, my usual weight was between 130-140 pounds in High School.. and around 150 when I got married....so I wasnt a THIN person.. but I wasnt grossly overweight.. just had a little somethin on me. But NOW, it's getting out of control. I wanted to SINK IN TO THE FLOOR when I read 189 on the scale.. after all, it was the dryer's fault for shrinking my clothes.. haha. I dont want to fail at this, I am determined not to. That's why I think after things settle down, and I know more about what Im doing, it'll be that much easier Maybe Im wrong..???

I just said something about the 2006 thing since that's what it says in your signature. I totally understand about wanting to prepare. I did the same thing, read this board for a good few days before I committed that this was what I was going to do. And I'm not perfect either, I've fallen off a few times, but if you put your mind to it, this WOL can really be great for you!!!! I'd KILL to see 189 on the scale, but I have further to go than you do.... I can't remember the last time I saw 130 or 140 lbs... probably 7th or 8th grade?! There are amazing people here who will always be here to celebrate with you and scold you when you've swayed off path.... with ADBB'ers on your side - there is no such thing as failure.

My favorite thing to remember is something that Joy posts quite a bit and is in her signature.... "I can have excuses or I can have results... I can not have both."

We'll be keeping an eye on you!

Hi Alaskan! I think it's great you're giving yourself time to learn about how Atkins works and you'll have time to read the book, as well as all our silly posts on ADBB

Yeah, I'd kill to see 189...it's going to be a few months until I get there!

Well you've definitely found the right place for support and advice...I love this board and I think I'm addicted to it worse than I was addicted to carbs...

Some things you can do to help yourself out BEFORE you start--if you don't drink water, ya better start! Caffiene is a no-no so perhaps try giving that up before you start Induction...that way it's not so many monsters to tackle all at once. Make sure you have your list of acceptable foods and take it with you shopping before you start--buy a LOT of legal stuff so you're not put in a position to be tempted to eat something illegal.

Hi Alaskan! Welcome to ADBB! My first piece of advice is to get "the book", the 2002 Edition of DANDR. Reading this book is a must if you want to eat properly. I will look forward to your successful weight loss.

Lol, I just got the 2006 thing *duh!* and changed it.. Im such a dork!! I miss seeing 130 on the scale.. I was comfortable then, with my body. I just need to get back there and I know that so much of how I feel about myself will change. My husband is trying to be supportive of me with this (I got married in VEGAS, fun fun fun!!), but he still stand on the "I love you no matter what you weigh", and while I appreciate that, I told him he wouldnt be able to love me if I had a heart attack by the time I was 30. Now he's kinda quit asking question's and is just lettin' me to my own thing . Im finding myself readin more and more... been on and off the computer all day, and Im finding myself getting excited about doing this. At first I thought it was going to be AWFUL with like, NOTHING to eat. I have to say, I am VERY impressed. I was wondering tho, does anyone have any suggestions to where I can get good Atkins recipies that have been tried out..? Maybe a website where someone has tried different recipies and.. I dunno.. rates them? I love almost any soup.. and I have found recipes, but no one to tell me if it's tasty!
Thanks for bein so sweet TRU, your kindness means a lot!!!

Water's gonna be a toughie for me.. Im addicted to juice. Any kind of juice! Can you buy lemon juice and squeeze it in there..? Im not big on caffiene, so that should be easy for me, Yes, a list.. where is a good place to find the list of the good foods..? Or is this in the infamous book? The other thing Im am kind of thinking about.. is.. with me starting this in January.. and having a family, am I going to end up making three different dinners? One for my daughter, one for me, once for my husband.? Maybe I'll just have them try stuff with me as I go along and they can pick out a few meals that they enjoyed, and if one day I make something they dont care for.. Daddy and baby can make their own meal...
I like the shirt you have on in your picture! The green paisley one from Old Navy... I've the same one

Oh! And.. Ive been wondering this...... from what Ive read on here, everyone's bodies are different, therefore, your weight loss will vary... but if there were an average weight loss on Induction.. what would you think it would be? What was yours.??

Hey Alaskan! Lemon juice does have carbs in it, so be sure to add that to your daily totals, but with a little splenda, it's Lemonade!

Have you checked out the recipe forum? Lots of great stuff there. Also, many of us use Linda's website for recipes:

You can expect to lose around 5-10% of the total weight you need to lose, during induction... if you do it clean. This will also give you an idea of your level of metabolic resistence.
