Hello everyone. I joined a while back, but never posted. I've been faithfully following Atkins 1999 version since September 15, 2005. I have read the 2002 version, but don't own it. I lost 102 pounds in 10 months and then plateaued for about 4 months. I didn't get upset at the long plateau because I love this WOE so much I don't even miss my old high carb favorites. I have truly made this a lifestyle change and I am looking forward to making goal in the next few months. I've lost a total of 114 pounds now, and seem to be going down a pound or two per week, again.
I have a lot of challenges, but that is not going to stand in the way of regaining my health. I am almost 57 years young and have problems with my thyroid. I was almost bedridden for several years and walked with two quad canes (not because of weight, because of an incurable disorder called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)). I threw the canes away over a year ago and can now exercise walk at a good pace for 30 to 45 minutes. I can do the 4-mile Walk Away the Pounds video several days a week. I lift weights three times per week. Last year at this time, I could only lift 2-pound weights for 10 minutes, sitting in a chair. At the end of that 10 minutes, I was shaking and sweating from the effort! I now can lift either 5-pound or 8-pound weights for 30 minutes and still am not sweating, shaking and in pain like I was a year ago. It doesn't sound like much weights, but it is a lot for me with the RSD. I have never liked exercise, especially lifting weights, but I have found that I can do it consistantly because of a change of attitude.
My name is Carole, but my nickname has been Sunny for many years. I look forward to joining you all in this healthful way of living.
