    Hello,
I'm so happy see this community. I have been on Atkins since 1997, I was 16 at the time and I went from 225 to 150 and at that weight I was happy and comfortable with my 5'6" frame. I managed to keep off around 70 pounds for 7 and a half years, but then earlier this year I noticed that the usual pound or two that i would gain every couple of months turned into 5 or 10, and even after going back to strict induction phase, I was unable to lose it or at least lose all 10, so its adding up. Now its been about 4 months and I am somewhere between 175-180 (too scared to check), i know that my eating habits have changed slightly due to a few life changes, but i still never eat the 4 deadlies (rice, pasta, bread, potatoes). I have tried going back to phase one, but that isnt helping much either. Is this just a rut? Anyone have any advice or simliar issues?

Thanks in advance and good work everyone!

    Re: Atkins Vet

Welcome, MGrace! 1997 was the old Atkins diet. You certainly will have a better understanding about your body and have a better dieting experience if you pick up the 2002 completely revised edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Also, as this is not your 1st time doing this diet, check out STAC (2nd time around club) for more info regarding the "rut". It's harder to drop the weight the more times you've yo-yo'd, and easier to gain it.

Our metabolism also tends to slow as we age.

      Thanks Boonie,
I was just looking at some of the foods in the menu section and everything looks pretty familiar, I wonder if my body hasnt just adapted to the lack of carbs and i'll just keep gaining..eeeeeeeeeeek! I'm gonna get the new book anyway..maybe Dr Atkins will take pity on me and come to me in a vision and let me know whats going on. I'll let you all know what he says Thanks again..

Mgrace, I don't know for sure what you've been eating...but I can tell you what my experience has been. I've been a victim of "carb creep" and what this means is all the little things with carbs that "creep up" on you and bite you in the butt by adding pounds. EEK! I've found that using www.fitday.com and being realistic about my portion sizes was a real eye opener for me. There were days where I guessed my carb count to be around 30...and it was 50 when I plugged it all into fitday.

I've been having SERIOUS issues with coffee too. I like coffee with sweet n low and cream or half and half....and I didn't have a "cup", I had 24 ounce MUGS with 2-3 sweetners and 2-3 portions of cream in each one. Let me tell ya, that added up Quick.

There could be any number of things going on. But, I'd do 2-3 days of strict induction to get your body firmly in ketosis and then start adding foods back according to the 2002 version. In the 2002 version you eat 3 cups of vegetables per day during induction and then you add more vegetables.

If you'd like, you can post what you normally eat and we can check it out for you.

Second time around takes longer for many, but I notice that if they stick with it, the weight does still go!
Valid has given you great advice. Hang in there... you can do it. Oh... and of course exercise really speeds things up!

Hey mgrace! Welcome to the board. You can post your menus at Review my Menu and people can see what you've been eating and if anything seems off. As Valid said, fitday.com is a terrific tool for logging what you eat so you can get a real clear picture of your intake.

Valid you are 100% right on, underestimating carb intake will get you everytime. I am going to post a typical days menu later this evening for all of your expert review.
Thanks again for all the advice and support. Good luck to all and remember...nothing tastes better than thin (and healthy!)
