  • Saying Hi!

Hello all, I have been hanging around the board for some time now. In the passed year I have lost about 40 pounds doing another method off and on but I seem to have gone as far as I can go with that. Also, I seem to have lost weight everywhere but on my abdomen where I really need to lose it. I am on day 4 of the induction. Any words of advice you can offer would be appreciated. I think so far the hardest part has been the scale shock as I seem to gain and lose about 8 pounds in a day. I'm trying to stick in there though. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and wish you all luck as well!

    Starting weight: 225
Current (day 4 of induction): 222
    Mini goal: 200
    Ultimate: 170

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

    Hi Spicy !
First of all, congratulations on taking the first step...you will not regret it!
I only have one thing to suggest and thats not to weigh yourself too often in the beginning, because while losing pounds quickly can be a great motivator, it can also be taken to the other extreme when they dont just fall off like they used to. More then anything, try to examine how YOU FEEL, your clothes, how comfortable you are when you sleep, going up the stairs, etc. Most of all keep in mind that giving up on yourself is not an option, we are all cheering for you!
Take Care and best of luck!

Hi Spicy, your weight will fluctuate, I weigh about two pounds less at 10am than I do at 4:00 am when I get up. I don't know why, so don't fret it. Also some people say not to weigh yourself daily, unfortantely I am a weigh aholic and I used to weigh myself everyday till the scale upstairs broke. Now I have to go downstairs to my husbands bathroom and weigh. That has become a pain, so I only weigh on Saturdays now. Well, now that I am back on track and have 45 pounds to loose, I started weighing a little more often. Welcome to the group and post as often as you like. The people here are real friendly......Dawn

Hi Welcome. Congratulations on making the committment to get healthy with us. The ADBB is full of people all sharing their experiences, knowledge, challenges and success tips. Be active with others who are making it happen and it will keep you encouraged to do the same.

My advice is to measure every two weeks - seeing the inches melt off is very inspiring and is more accurate than the scales. Our bodies go up/down in weight whereas the loss in inches show exactly how your body is changing. Best wishes! I welcome you and look forward to sharing in your success!!

          Spicy! Hello!

If you want to lose weight around your middle, this is really the plan! I started with a LOT of weight around my midsection (and I still have a ways to go) but I can guarantee that Atkins helps you lose belly fat.

I agree with the others--the soonest you should weigh is at the end of your 2-week induction period. That way you will get an idea of how metabolically resistant you are, and also it will give you a ballpark figure of what your CCLL is.

Take measurements--if you're a regular exerciser (which you should be on Atkins!) there will be many times where the scale registers no change, when in fact your pants are falling off your body! You will replace fat with lean and healthy muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat--while 5lb. of it weighs the same, it takes up less room, meaning you will be leaner and smaller.

Looking forward to more posts! Have a happy new year.

            Hi Spicy! Welcome!

Glad you found us here at ADBB. Don't fret about the fluctuations in weight... scales can be very erratic. Much better to measure and go by the feel of your clothes. Often we lose inches but not pounds. Stick with the plan and you'll become leaner and fitter pretty quickly!

Wow! Thank you all for the quick and motivating responses. I will take your advice and try to not weigh myself so often. That won't be easy but i know if this is going to work for me, I need to listen to those of you that have found success with it. Those of you that have pics....AMAZING! I hope I can post a pic soon.So how about this then....do you remember how many inches off the belly you all lost on induction?

                  Re: Saying Hi!

Sadly, no, because I didn't take measurements when I started. But I will say that I've really kicked my exercise up a notch this month and have lost 3" in my waist since the beginning of December...

                    Re: Saying Hi!

Hi Spicy, looks like we are both starting here on the same day. I'm in induction as well and if you don't mind hearing advice from a fellow Atkins newbie I'd make two suggestions:
                    1. Get the book and read it. It really helps to understand what your doing. Not only is that good for yourself but it also helps when someone starts up with Atkins negativity.
                    2. Eat at least three meals a day and make sure to eat until you are satisfied. Don't starve yourself and don't stuff yourself.

Normally I'd also add one thing to someone starting any new diet. Get some support! However, since you've come here you've obviously already figured that part out.

Good luck and I hope to see you on here regularly.
