  • First day of classes, first day of induction

    Hi all,
My name is Mark, and I'm addicted to carbs.
No, make that WAS. Today is the day I turn it around!

I'm an urban planning student, just about to start my second semester of my second year. I've been overweight for as long as I can remember, but this past semester was ridiculous. Classes were hard and irrelevant, and many had me working on campus for days at a time -- I had time to cook only about five times a month; the rest of the time I'd eat pizza or chips or whatnot -- anything I could eat while I worked or studied.
This semester, my workload's much lighter, and I'm finally starting to take classes I want to take.
Here's hoping Atkins works as well for me as it is/has for all of you!
    Cheers,
    Mark

Hi Mark, you are in the right place for healthy eating. Now you need to prepare a toolkit for youself for your classes this season. Your toolkit is going to be filled with healthy foods, healthy snacks and water bottles. You can't leave home without it at all !!

There is so much for you hear on these boards. Hope to see you posting.

Hey Mark. Welcome to the board! Have you familiarized yourself with the rules of induction? I would suggest checking into www.fitday.com which is a great tool for recording your food intake so you can keep track of fat/protein/carb percentages. Since you have more time to cook now, do you enjoy cooking?

Re: First day of classes, first day of induction

          Hi again all,
Thanks for the encouragement! The first day was rough -- terrible headaches which I'm assuming is a sugar withdrawal symptom. They're gone now, and I'm feeling slightly more energetic today than I was previously. And I'm never hungry! Still crave carbs, but I walked right past the cookies & chips in the foodmart today without a second thought

I'm following from the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. I've not used fitday yet, but I'm keeping a detailed journal. I'm sure Fitday would be quicker though, and I'll try it out tomorrow.

          Cheers all,
          Mark

Re: First day of classes, first day of induction

Sorry you had the "induction flu", it happens to many people and I'm glad the worst is over. You're not hungry because you're doing this right! Woo Hoo, imagine that! Not being hungry! Good job on walking past the treats, the cravings will go away entirely soon.

IMHO, fitday is the best way to keep track. You really learn how to juggle your food intake so you keep the proper percentages. If you're low in protein you will know what to do, if you're too high in fat, you learn how to eat to compensate for it. I am personally addicted to it.

My goodness, y'all are quick to reply!
I'll start with Fitday tomorrow! I just hope I'll be able to keep up with it; I'm not very good at keeping track of things!
