  • Trying for Real this time.

Hello Everyone! I've been a fan of the board for some time now and i finally worked up the courage to Introduce myself and to say hello to you all! My name is Loren and i'm 18, I'm a carboholic. I recently Moved with my Parents from San Diego California to Kodiak Alaska. Since Moving to the rock i have put on about 40 pounds. I have been trying to do the diet on my own for the last month, and it seems at every turn i run into nay-sayers and people telling me atkins wil kill me blahdy blah blah, i'm sure you all know how people act. Unfortunately i'm not too terribly strong willed so i give in. I started Atkins at 175 pounds, that was a month ago. I now weigh 168. I know i could have lost more, but without any support i am constantly cheating and straying. SO i have come to you all knowing that if i am going to get any support it will be from you folks here at ADBB! I Will be starting the diet again on the 5th and i pray this time i can stick to it!

Some times it is easier to not say you are on atkins until they can see how wonderful you are doing. I would just tell people I am eating meat and vegie. No one ever turned their nose down on that

Welcome Loren ~ so glad you've introduced yourself! Congratulations on the 7 pounds!!

You've definitely come to the right place for support and encouragement. Reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (edition 2002), surrounding yourself with people who understand (ADBB), feeling the energy and seeing the positive results will help you when you encounter the negative-minded people. Once people start noticing how well you are doing, their attitudes will change.

Theres a lot of support here to help keep you motivated. Become active in the boards and challenges, take your measurements and do the program faithfully. Plan to succeed and you will.
        Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Welcome to the board! I have found in my many attempts at Atkins, to only tell the people who are supportive. Otherwise I think of an excuse why i dont want or cant have something. That is the new basic rule I made for myself. My MIL was over wanting me to eat something yesterday, and I just kept on with excuses why I couldnt eat it. My hubby knew, but I just didnt want the drama from her. Anyway, glad you introduced yourself here. Many people are afraid, or ashamed of things, but we all find out, were here for the same reason. Many people have stories so similar to ours, youd think you said it yourself. Glad to meet you! Good luck on your journey!

Welcome Loren and Welcome to the ADBB. Hey Girl, this is a great place to be and you are going to meet some fantastic people who are morphing their bodies and lives. Don't wait to jump in, ask questions, read up on all the stickies and live your life.

Sidebar...My godfather and mother lived in Anchorage and I visited there many, many years ago as I will never forget my trip. I also have a dear friend who is a missionary in Kotzebue way up north. How is life at the 'rock' compared to San Diego? I'm a S.Cal gal as well (LA) and have been to San Diego a few times and loved it.

Hoping to get to know you.

Loren - You can also tell people you have to avoid sugar and white flour because of allergy problems. No one ever says a word after that! Put some backup stuff in your car, in your fridge, and in your backpack - then if you are in a tempting situation you'll have a fall back 'because of your allergies'.

Welcome! I'm new too and I am really excited just starting in. I lived in San Diego for about 3 years. There is no big city I would choose over Big San D!! LA is over rated. Never been to Alaska but if I did, as an atkineer, I would take advantage of teh fresh salmon...mmmm...Anyhoo, there's plenty of support here and everyone is really really positive

Re: Trying for Real this time.

Welcome! I'm returning to Atkins myself, after losing over 60 pounds with it two years ago. I became very ill just after I met my goal weight, and naturally, everyone in the world automatically blamed the Atkins Diet for everything that was wrong with me. Only after tons of tests was it revealed to be a nueorological disorder, and nothing to do with diet in any way, shape, or form. When I was doing Atkins before, I just told people that I was eating low-carb, and if they expressed horror at the idea, I explained to them what Atkins actually means: lots of meat and veggies, no processed sugars and flours. Most of them, including my doctors, agreed that if it was working for me and my bloodwork was okay, there was no reason for me to not do it.

This board was an incredible help to me last time, and as soon as I decided to go back on Atkins my first stop wasn't the book or the Atkins web site, it was this board!
