  • Introducing myself.

    Hello,

My name is Robin. I am 43 years young, tipping the scares at 283 at a mere 5'2. I went searching for ways to lower my blood sugar and stumbled across your diabetic forums, and I sat here and read forums until 7 am I am described as a brittle diabetic. My blood sugar runs above 200 every morning, and consistantly says high, never going below 190.

I have had the DANDR book stashed in a cabinet for quite some time. Of course I read parts of it, discussed it with my Dr, and was basically informed it was a bunch of crap. Was told it will give me heart problems, as if my high blood sugar won't..lol. Hence the reason it got stashed.

After reading the forums and the many sucess stories, I have decided to take it upon myself to give this a shot, monitoring my BG all the while I am doing it. It has to beat the 70 units of insulin at night and the multiple shots I take every day.

I am sure there will be many questions to ask and I will find the proper forums to ask them in.

Thank you sooo much for this site, I am sure it will help me go into a better and healthy life!!

    And the quest begins......

        Re: Introducing myself.

Hi cincywbbw, I'll welcome you in this thread too. There is a new book out called the Atkins Diabetes Revolution. It's got some interesting stuff in it too. Stick with DANDR though for thorough information on how to actually DO the plan. The Diabetes book only touches on the broad aspects, but focuses more on the diabetes aspect.

I can't wait to hear how you do. I think that you'll see immediate improvements in your blood sugar. Do you also have problems with cholesterol? It can take a few months to notice improvements there...but if you do the plan right, I think you'll see improvement there as well. Mine improved quite a bit, and it wasn't "Bad" to begin with.

Some fascinating reads on here are in the "Memorable Posts" forum, but there are a couple that really got my attention

In the diabetic forums, there are links to Dr. Bernstein's site for diabetes, check that out too if you haven't already.

            Re: Introducing myself.

Yes, I have had problems with everthing that comes with being over weight, high colesterol, high blood pressure, water retention, terrible hives from yeast infections, you name it right now I am suffering from it. I take Vytorin for my colesterol and got that level down to normal, Captopril for my blood pressure, and Lasix for the swelling. Those Meds I'll continue on till my next Dr appt on the 17th. Ohh and 70 units of levimire and sliding scale novalog. I'll keep adjusting that as time warrants.

On the plus side, I am starting my induction in the morning. I will post my blood sugars in here and check the progress and post every time.

I have a feeling with the support I feel coming from this group, I WILL succeed. Hopefully I can become a canidate for Boot Camp!!

              Re: Introducing myself.

One other thing that you'll want to keep in mind then....I can't recall WHY this is, but Atkins has diuretic properties. You'll want to make SURE to drink LOTS of water because between the Lasix and the diuretic properties of the diet you don't want to get dehydrated. I don't know exactly how that might work. Just something you should be aware of.

Why don't you start a journal chat http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=31

Basically it's an online journal for yourself to post whatever you want. Then, folks like us can drop in and leave you notes in your journal. They are truly great for support...it's where I've made bonds with the people here. I think you'll like it.

                      Re: Introducing myself.

Hello Cincywbbw and a warm welcome to you! I think you've made a great decision to try Atkins. Diabetics usually report MAJOR improvements when eating the Atkins way. I sure you will too. Don't fret about your Doc naysaying... some are not as enlightened as they think they are. You might like to get another opinion.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll feel the benefits very soon (expect a bout of induction flu the first days though) in added energy and looser clothes!

Keep us posted on how you get on and ask any questions you might have.
