  • New MEMBER from Europe

    Hello everybody,

I began Atkins on Tuesday and I hope that I am doing it right.
I do not have the book and I do not have continous access tothe INternet.

So far I have been eating beef, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, cheese and eggs. Unfortunately the things mentioned on the web site such as skim milk, or Atkins products are not available here.

I think I have stayed within 22 gr of carbs

I have let myself go for the last year and gained 14kg or 30 lbs

I am 168 cm or roughly 5 ft 7 and at the moment weigh 71 kg =156 lbs

I do not know what to expect. I am desperate. I have been refusing to go out see my friends because nothing fits me. I get too upset and I open a bottle of wine. That does not help, only adds more pounds. I stopped that too now and I need some sort of couragement.

How many lbs can someone like me expect to lose within 2 weeks of induction? And how much time do I need to lose all 30?

I apologize for my English and I hope to hear from you about your stories.

    Thanks,

    Evrim

Hey euroasia! Welcome to the board! Your English is fine, where are you from? You should check out the induction forum, there's lots of people just starting and many questions are being asked/answered over there.

Weight loss during induction varies per person. once you've completed the 2 weeks and weigh yourself, you have the answer for you! on going weight loss tends to slow down a bit from induction phase, but as long as it's steady loss, all will be fine!

You also might want to try www.fitday.com This is a place where you can log all your food eaten each day to keep proper track of fat/protein/carbs. it takes a little getting used to, but it's a great tool!

Turykey! Now, that's a first for me! Thanks for the compliment. I am proof that this way of eating works, and works well! I wish you much success.

Hello Eurasia... welcome! Glad to have you aboard. And by the way...Your English is great!

As Silly said, it's hard to say how much you will lose... there are so many variables. If you do a clean induction phase you can expect to lose between 5 to 10% of the total amount of weight you need to lose.

If you can get a hold of the book it would be a very good thing. DANDR (2002 edition) is the one you want. You can order it online. I think I got mine from Amazon. Understanding the science behind the diet is a great help.

          Happy low carbing!

I hae a question I cannot seem to find an answer for.

I know potatoes and corn are a no no but are carrots (raw or steamed) allowed during induction?

No carrots are not allowed on induction. Here is a link that will list the veggies allowed...
