I've been kind of gradually making myself more at home here over the last few days, adding signature information, posting instead of lurking, participating in the upcoming bikini challenge. But anyway, I thought I'd officially introduce myself.
I'm 33 and am a single mom in Indianapolis. I've been on the chubby side of normal all my life, but never technically overweight. Then at 28, I had twins and gained a lot of weight. Most of my pregnancy weight came off but not all of it, which put me on the other side of the overweight line. Then I quit smoking in August 2004, and gained another 15 pounds. Since then, I've been yo-yo dieting, gaining and losing the same 10 pounds. I've tried Atkins before, but never got through a full, clean induction. I always came up with a reason to stop.
The up side of all the yo-yo nonsense is I've figured out what works and what doesn't. Low-carb works for me. And not only by helping me lose weight. I also eat more vegetables when I eat low-carb, and feel full with normal-sized portions when eating low-carb.
I started induction on 12/30, which puts me at day #13. I've lost 3 pounds, which is low by Atkins standards, but it's 10% of my goal, and I wouldn't have lost any more than that doing a low-fat diet, so I'm pretty happy.
I'm so glad I found this place. You all seem like such a great, supportive bunch, and I really look forward to getting to know you all better!
