  • Re-Introduction

Well, I'm back. Joined little over a year ago, gave Atkins a try, but just didn't work out. Don't think I was ready at that point for it. Anyway, giving it try again, lot of things are different in my life now and I think it'll work out.

Than : About to be married.....smoked....was in the Air Force...lot of stress

Now : Waiting on paperwork to go through for divorce (mutual decision, we were both unhappy)...have quit smoking (about 2 1/2 months now!!! My proudest achievment right now, after almost 8 years of smoking)...have finished my 6 year enlistment in the Air Force, and back home in NY (currently looking for employment, have a few promising possibilities)...not much stress

Have realized just how badly I've let myself go over the last 2-3 years. At 5'8" I'm at about 210 lbs, my highest weight ever. For someone who played sports all year round all through High School, not something I'm happy with. So starting tomorrow going to try atkins again. My mom (an atkins vet) is challenging me to do 2 weeks minimum, see how I feel. With her helping me, I'm pretty sure I can do it. Also going to get back into working out, probably going to start with the couch - to - 5k program, to get back into it slowly.

Going to try to get down to 180 lbs short term, about 30 lbs to lose. It's something I really need to do, especially if I'm going to meet another "special person". At my weight right now I have low self confidence about how I look, so obviously can't meet anyone looking and feeling like I am. I'll be around a lot, since I'm a forum junkie, and will need all the support I can get/find. Thanks for listening.

    Docsthaname... welcome!
Sounds like you've had big lifestyle changes, which you seem happy with. That's really great as it will most likely make doing Atkins easier. The less stress we have the more we can concentrate on getting to goal, don't you think?

Glad you joined ADBB... it's a wonderful place for support, good low carb advice and inspiration.

Do keep us posted as to how you get on!

      Re: Re-Introduction

      Hi,
I am on day 5 of induction. I also had tried Atkins before but wasn't ready or able to stay on it. I do need support and recipe ideas. I keep thinking of m&ms! I tried Atkins about 2 years ago but couldn't stay on it. I was using some sugar substitutes then but only a few drops of stevia now. I went through terrible sugar addiction withdrawal for the first 3 days. I feel better now but get light-headed at times. I ate sugar all day long before so am still adjusting. I still don't see how one can stay on this but am going to focus on induction first. I remember getting to the end of induction the first time I tried it and realizing I was only adding 5 carbs a day back. Now I know what is ahead so will endeavor to follow it strictly. I must lose 30 pounds and this seems to be the best way for me. I think the sugar is the culprit at my age now and need to quit. I have lost 3.5 pounds in 5 days so am encouraged to keep going. I am bored with the food choices at this point. I remember a hot chocolate recipe made with heavy cream and cocoa powder and water so may have to make some for boredom's sake. I haven't found any innovative recipes on any web sites for induction. Chicken salad on a romaine leaf is getting old so any ideas would be helpful. I do believe that all the sugar and bad carbs are the reason for a lot of health problems and weight issues so am ready to change my entire food "life". My vision has improved already, it was blurred. I pray success for you and recipe ideas for us all so we don't get bored! Thanks for sharing, I know I'm not alone here.
