  • giving it a go!

Hi Everyone! I am new to the board and this is my first post. First let me introduce myself.....

I am a 33 year old mother of three, married to the same wonderful man for almost eleven years. I am a stay at home mom and I have been overweight almost as long as I can remember.

I started induction on Monday January 8th and I am loving it! I have lost 8 lbs. so far and I have 92 more to go to reach my goal. I started at 262 lbs and would like to be 160.

To be completely honest, I am a terrible computer friend, not because I don't want to talk, but I only have access to a computer on a very limited basis, so if anyone replies and it takes me a bit of time to respond, it is because of my limited computer time. (only one computer in the house and DH takes it to work with him, and it often stays at the office....)

Anyways, I look forward to getting to know some fellow Atkins followers. Thanks for taking the time to read this. ~h-g~

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

        Welcome Hubbys Girl!!!
ADBB is a great place, even if you only get to come here now and again.
Congrats on your weight loss so far... you're off to a marvellous start!

You're new to the board, so I'd like to suggest you join our latest board wide challenge: Jimmie's "No Scale Challenge". You don't need to be here often to do it. All you do is weigh yourself at the start, then put the scale away for a couple of weeks. At the end you see how you've gotten along.
You could also take your measurements at the start too, as often measurements are a better indication of true weight loss than the scales. The link to the challenge is:

        http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=39701

Make yourself at home here and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

        Happy losing!

            Re: giving it a go!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I was pleasantly surprised when I weighed myself this morning and found that I am 12 lbs. down. My dh is a longtime atkins follower and he says that durring induction that is how it worked for him too. I don't really want to compare myself to him as I know everyone has a different metabolism. For me though, 12 lbs feels so good. My jeans are a bit more baggy and my shirts are a lot less form fitting! LOL I am having fun this time around and it seems so much easier to do, I really feel like I am ready for the challanges ahead. Anyways, as a life time dieter, I am not deluding myself into thinking this is not going to be work, but my mantra has become "it's just food". This has helped me this week when chocolate has been calling my name. Thanks for the suggestions to check out some other challanges. I hope to see everyone around. ~h-g~

12 pounds, that's terrific. It sounds like you're getting very comfortable with this!

                Re: giving it a go!

Hey Sillygirl, thanks so much for the replies. I am getting comfortable with it and I am looking forward to the journey ahead. My mini goal is to get down to 225lbs. Then I'd like to get down to 200. Mostly I think I'd like to take it in 25lb segments. I have a baby boy who is turning one this month and he doesn't walk yet but I know it is coming soon, so I'd like to lose a bit more before he gets truckin' along. I'm sure it will be easier to keep up with him if I am lighter. I'd also like to chase off the boys that are buzzing around my 13 year old, and play more with my 9 year old. You know, busy mom, not much energy when loaded down with carbs.

                  Re: giving it a go!

That sounds like a great plan. Besides, our goals do change along the way. Sometimes the weight we envision for ourselves is not what's realistic. I think the 25 Lb segments is such a good idea. And you should reward YOU with a little goodie each and every time, and not with food unless it's legal!!

                    Re: giving it a go!

Thanks, I kinda already decided to stay away from food as a reward. That's what got me to 262 lbs in the first place, so a part of this whole approach is changing the way I relate to food. I keep telling myself when I am tempted that it is just food and I can find something else that will scratch that itch that won't work against my efforts. Who would have thought that 250 lbs would feel good? I didn't think I'd be happy to see that # on a scale but I am! One other thing, I signed up for the no weigh challenge. I think it will be fun. I put my scale in my DH's truck and since it is out of sight I am hoping it will stay out of mind and not have me running outside in the middle of the night in my pj's to find it. LOL

Hey there Sallyseachange! Thanks for the reply, I am having an ok time of it. I'm not quite sure what I have lost these past few days, but the ketostixs are dark purple so something is going right. One question, do you know where I can go on the board to talk about some specific issues that affect women on Atkins? Things like dealing with weight fluctuations durring monthly cycles, and what is common durring those times of the month? How hormones affect weight loss, and how to deal with severe cravings durring that time as well? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

That is so great about your loss so far! WOW! Even if you can't get here often, the advice and support offered here are second to none. This a positive place. I know you will continue to lose and I look forward to seeing some of your stories of success.

Hubbys_girl... seems like you're well into ketosis. That's great!

Re your queries... if you look at the forum list you'll see a forum called "Atkins for Women"; it's a female only forum. Here's the description they give, with instructions for access...quote:

"This is a forum for Women on the Atkins Diet. This is a private forum. Women who desire access should go to the UserCP link and request membership. PLEASE make sure you have female in your signature!" Unquote.

If you have trouble, you could pm one of the Admins (Richt, Kent, Laurenfra) and they'll give you access.
