  • Scale won't move

Hi! New to this site, but not to Atkins.Reason I searched you out is because I'm very frustrated!I am a 49yyoung menopausal woman who quit smoking 3months ago and immediately put on 15lbs,even though I increased my exersize and was eating like a bird!Since atkins had worked for me in the past, quickly lost 15lbs the last time, figured I'd give it a whirl again!Well,I did lose 5lbs in a couple of days and was thrilled! Was away from my scale for a few days and when I weighed in I had gained back all 5lbs!Did nothing different.I just want to scream and throw in the towel! What the heck is going on?I don't have alot to lose,15-20lbs,but this time the scale won't budge!!!!!Why does it always go on so fast and come off slower than slow?Am I doing something wrong?I beg of you,HELP ME!!!! Thankyou

Welcome rockchick! I'm glad you joined us but sorry to hear that you are having problems. It could be any number of things, I would suggest posting your menu in the "review my menu" forum. Also include your exercise/water intake etc.

      Re: Scale won't move

Hi Rockchick and welcome to ADBB. Glad you found us here.

Re your weight loss issues... don't panic... there are many factors that could make things different: Menopause in early stages can cause weight swings due to hormone fluctuations (happened to me lots). Second time around often things go slower...as if your body remembers and resists a bit, at first, until it realises you're 'serious'. Extra exercise could be causing you to make muscle which weighs heavier than fat...so you could be losing inches, not lbs.

Why not take your measurements and then join the new board wide No Scale Challenge. You weigh, then put the scale away for two weeks... which helps greatly with that scale dependence that can happen so easily at first. If you're interested, the link to the challenge is: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=39701

Hang in there and sooner or later it'll happen! Do keep us posted...

                Re: Scale won't move

rockchick. I quit smoking in july and promptly gained 8 lbs without deterring from my diet at all. Nicotine is a stimulant, which increases your metabolism. When you quit the cigarettes, your metabolism slowed. You need to replace it with something else, preferably exercise. It took me WEEKS to get that quitting smoking weight gain off, but it DID come off and now I'm a THINNER NON-SMOKER! yay!

That's just one more thing to keep in mind. Keep at the program and the weight WILL come off.

                    Re: Scale won't move

Define "eating like a bird" for us. You may be eating far too few calories (below your basal metabolic rate) and your body could be holding onto every calorie for all it's worth because it thinks it's being starved (starvation mode).

I eat when I'm hungry which isn't often and never at specific times each day.My eating habits are horrible and have been for a long time due to my life!I think you all are right that I don't eat enough.

Hey Rock! So, how are you going to resolve your limited eating? You need a plan!!!!! Joy is absolutely right when she said that eating too little can put your body in starvation mode.

Sillygirl,I know ,I know,I need to eat more.Sometimes I do,but it's crap,at the wrong time of day.I just have to say it,your dog is cuter than cute!Anyway,I fear I may have to turn traitor and try nutrisystem,it looks like a way I could get back on track as far as eating properly, without having to think about it!Any thoughts on this?Anyone ever tried it?Am I even supposed to ask this on this site?Sorry if it's a no-no!
