    It all started from a bet...

    Hello,

    I'm new to this board... But not to Atkins... The atkins diet and I have been having a pretty flirtatious affair. I have been on this diet at least five times... I think the longest I had been able to stay was 3 and a half months... The shortest was around two weeks.

    I am starting over again this time because I am seriously ready to put my nose to the grindstone and lose some weight...

    ... Not to mention there is 1,000 dollars involved.

    My mother and I started out with a discussion... That evolved to an arguement, and suddenly to a bet... She bet me if I can make it into at least a size five or lower by January 27th, 2008 (1 year from then) She'll give me a grand... However, if I cannot make it to a size 5 by that time, I will be stuck having to fork out a grand to her...

    I am starting to second-guess agreeing to this bet though, as I am 5 feet and 11 inches tall... And I am not so sure if I would be able to fit into a size 5 unless I was quite too thin. Perhaps I can talk her up a size or two!

    Are there any experienced dieters out there around my height who are also female that can shed some light on this for me? It would be quite appreciated!

    Anyway... Thank you for having this website... Hopefully I will be able to do this for real this time, without going astray.

    Hi Night!

    I'm certainly not as tall as you (ok.. I'm alot shorter haha) but, a size 5 I would think is tiny on just about anyone! Those are big shoes to fill as the saying goes. No clue what size you're starting from though either.

    Good luck with the bet, and hopefully, the bet will become the unimportant part of the change in life for ya!

        Welcome....good luck on your bet. Although nobody can guess what size they will be a year from now, I do know that if you stick to the plan you'll look and feel like a million and that is definitely worth it. So happy you've joined us!

          Actually a 5/6 these days is not that small. I am in a 5/6 now and I weigh 138 and I am 5" 8'.

          I recall when I was young and in my teens and 20s weighing not much more than this and being in a 14.

          Give vanity sizing another year and a 200 pound girl will be able to fit into a 6.

              First of all, that's superb motivation, because really, who wants to lose 1,000.
              As for vanity sizing - use that to your advantage...start asking all those skinny chickadees who carries the biggest 5.... besides, you only have to wear it while she's counting out the G right??? Anyone can suck it in for a little while if you're close!!

              Best of luck, and stick with it.... eventually the scales and tape measure will start to move!!!

                Hello again,

                Thank you all for your kind words and sincere responses. I was quite glad to have read them when I arrived home this afternoon!

                ... I have checked and I am quite heavy in Ketosis... Strangely, I haven't had to resist that horrible sugar craving I usually get (Though I had a twinge when I saw my brother throw away the rest of his Oreo pudding). But I didn't dare sneak a spoonful.

                ... For now, I'm going to have to wait for my father to finish constructing our studio and rec room untill I can get a machine. ... That will probably be around 3 months... Then I may be able to talk them into something good for all of us.

                Until then, I went to Big Lots last night and bought a little trampoline-ish thing for 40 dollars called the "Body Burner" ... I tried it out today while watching Reno 911... It got me pretty tired, but mostly my feet and calves just hurt and I didn't get sweaty or winded. But I suppose that is normal at first.

                I have also been excersizing in my room with the door locked. This proves very useful as I can go at my own pace, do what I want and don't have to worry about being stared down. I usually do push-ups, sit-ups and stretching.

                Again, thanks to everyone who replied to my thread. It is an honor to be among those who continue to succeed with Atkins... Hopefully I can join you all someday!

                  Good for you getting the exercise started! Exercise and Atkins is a win win situation!

                    What a great bet!!! It really helps when you know there's a prize at the end!! hehe
