  • Hi, Nervous UK Newbie here

    Hi,
I am a 38 year old, overweight, married female in Swansea, Wales, UK.

I am starting atkins again, after having quite a lot of success on it previously. I lost over 3 stones 2 years ago, but had to give it up when I became ill in hospital after an op gone wrong.

I have been given the medical OK to start again, but am struggling getting in ketosis this time around.

I have a medical condition whereby my pancreasis only semi-functional, and my gallbladder in non functional. Could this be causing things to start off slower for me.

I am very impatient and find that I quit if I have setbacks, so am really hoping for some support here.

    Too much information?

    Sorry *creeps out*

    Hi there Dotty21,

    No need to creep out

Sorry to hear about your medical problems. I'm afraid I dont know how pancreas and gall-ballder function affects this WOE, but I expect someone around here will.

At least, having had success before, you know the atkins ropes.

Some people seem to have really slow loss, but sticking with it seems to help everyone in the end. Are you exercising to kick start your loss? Also when you say you aren't in ketosis, are you going on the sticks - because they aren't always reliable:

If you feel like quitting them come and post on here and you'll get loads of replies and reasond why you shouldn't.

Best of luck, see you around the board.

Hey there Dotty... welcome to the ADBB!
Nice that you decided to slim down again with Atkins.
Sorry about your health issues... hopefully eating the Atkins way will have a beneficial effect on your overall health. Why not ask your doctor about low carbing and gall-bladder/pancreas probs?
I seem to remember reading on the board that you can do Atkins just fine with such problems, but hopefully someone with more knowledge will be around soon to give you a more specific answer.

      Happy losing!

Re: Hi, Nervous UK Newbie here

Thanks for the replies ladies. They are appreciated
Unfortunately my condition is pretty rare. My specialist says I am one on my own with all my problems. He is lovely bless him, one of the best in the UK. But this is untrodden ground as it where. So he can't offer much advice. The dietician I saw said and I quote "If it works, then go for it". They say that it is healthier to lose weight and try the Atkins again, than stay overweight and risk increased health problems. Plus I am borderline diabetic and studies have shown that Atkins really helps.

I shall shut up now. I feel like I am coming across as a whinger, whereas I am really upbeat honest

                Hi Dotty

Great to see another UK'er on the boards! I'm sorry to hear about ur gall bladder/pancreas.

I see that you have already lost 4lbs, weigh to go! Have you got some b4 and after pics from your previous weight loss? Stick them up on ur fridge so that every day you are reminded of the success that you have before.
Definately start the exercising and keeping up with ur water intake.

Myself and Jane are running a Bikini Challenge, you are more than welcome to join, the link is on Janes post in her siggie if you want to sign up.
