  • Old Atkiner - but newbie here

Old in all ways! I'm 56 and first went on Atkins back - I don't know? 1970?

Then I got scared off by all the naysayers and now weigh about 75 pounds more than I did back then. Of course back then I also used diet pills - back when diet pills were pure speed - so I have a long history of just plain bad dieting.

I then went back on Atkins in 2002 and lost 50 pounds over the year and felt great. Had one of the most fun years of my life! But then I got into a really really REALLY bad relationship that just dragged all the life out of me for the next 3 years. And fat replaced the life and I put about 25 pounds back on.

Over the last year I've been really turning my life around again but dammit! I just haven't been able to get on track with my eating. Although I do weigh 5 pounds less than this same time last year. However, over the last year my bad knees have become worse knees and I'm a suffering unit here. I need to lose weight for the sake of my knees.

Also, this weekend was a turning point for me. I was out shopping for clothes - lots of sales and I was just shopping my little heart out. But I wanted a pair of brown pants to match a suede jacket and every pair I tried on fit - in fact they were almost too big. Since I had already been thinking I need to get back on track for the sake of my knees, I started thinking: "If I went on Atkins for even two weeks, these pants would be too big."

I decided to not buy them, get back on Atkins and if I stick to 14 days perfectly - I will buy whatever I want - within reason of course.

So yesterday I started. If I can lose another 50 pounds over the year I will be at the lowest weight since - I don't know - maybe 1975 or 1976.

    Wouldn't that be cool?

The good thing is that once I get into ketosis - it's a breeze. I like the kind of food I can eat on Atkins. I never am hungry. It is just a good diet for me. South Beach gave me too many options and I couldn't handle that. But Atkins (like Nutrasystem) means I don't have to think - and if I can avoid that - I'm all set.

Okay unless I get upset and want chocolate and bread and porridge and potatoes.

    So wish me luck!!!!!

Welcome to ADBB, Secret. Have you got the revised version of DANDR written in 2002? It's quite an improvement over the older Atkins.

I think so. I'm sure I read that a while back. I also have Dr. Atkins Age-Defying Diet and an Atkin cookbook. Although the cookbook was probably a waste of money. I tend to eat very simply on Atkins. And my shopping is a breeze - strictly around the perimeter of the store.
