  • What's in a name?

G'day all. As the name suggests, I'm from Melbourne, Australia and this is my second go at Atkins. (This time I actually got the book too).

I started induction 10 days ago (no cheats). The experience has been somewhat different to the first time I did it. The hunger/cravings have gone, but my telltale bright yellow 'fluid' comes and goes . Maybe not eating quite enough fat?. I also have had really bad cramps from day 4 to 9 (last time I had it one night and gone), but the new supplements seem to be working.

Last time I went about 6 months with zero cheats (lost ~20kg/45lbs) . Then on a long weekend away (with a tight budget) I decided to cheat for 3 days, and get back on induction on the Tuesday. I never did... stupid . I think last time I stayed on extended induction too long. I might move onto OWL a little earlier this time.

It's good to be back though! The energy's good (apart from feeling tired when the cramps kept me awake), the snacks are pretty much gone and I can't wait for the pounds and inches (well, kilos and centimetres) start coming off.

uhmmm.. if you're taking vitamins... and the yellow fluid is what I think it is... it could be that you're taking more water soluable vitamins than your body needs... or that you need to drink more water....

Welcome back and congrats on making it without any bad carbies.

First time around, the colour was one of my signs of ketosis. But thinking about timing, there may be a link with the vitamins.

I drink lots of water. at least 3 litres (12*8 ounces I think roughly) to 4 litres (a gallon) a day.

Welcome back! Check out the Second Time Around Club...you aren't the only one who fell off the wagon. There's a lot of support there from others. The important thing is learning how to make this time the last time on Atkins and change this into a way of living, rather than a diet. I think you're right on about OWL...and don't forget about premaintenance either. Dr. Atkins says in DANDR page 194:
In fact, I would go so far as to say that Pre-Maintenance is mandatory if permanent weight loss is to be achieved.
I definitely didn't do Pre-Maintenance the first time. I used OWL to achieve all my weight loss and then I quit.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

Welcome to the board Graeme! Glad you found us here! It's a terrific place for inspiration.

Yes... the yellow is most likely from supplements.

It's great that you intend to move to OWL before too long. Many of us actually lose faster on the first rung of OWL, and the extra food choices are very welcome.

Keep us posted on your progress...we're all interested and willing to help, if needed.

Hi there from Aus. also - not that far from Melbourne. 2nd timer also - could have whacked myself for falling off the rails but I guess I'll just have to get over it.

Few turning up from 'down under' - I though low carb was no longer trendy here? Good to know that there is some local support.

            Cheers
Got to stop fighting with myself & find peace!

Welcome Graeme and Lisaloo. I think a lot of us second timers (and third or fourth timers) want to give ourselves a good whack for falling off the rails.
I know I could kick myself for doing so.

I also noticed a lot of folks from Austrailia are joining here. I rarely see any Canadians joining and am starting to think I am living in the wrong country.

                    Re: What's in a name?

Hi all, thanks for the welcomes. Shout out to the fellow Aussies, lisaloo and D14965. Lyssie and sally you were right, twas the vitamins.

Few turning up from 'down under' - I though low carb was no longer trendy here?
I think you're right, it isn't trendy here. Just look at the inactivity on the International/Australia board. But who needs to be trendy?

Progress: I've lost 8kg or 17lbs, 3-4 inches around the gut and waist, and a bit over an inch from the thigh. I joined the gym a week ago so that means exercise 6 times a week and weights 3 times. Things are going well, no cheats (apart from a couple of aspartame drinks), and about to move onto OWL after 4 weeks.

                    Onwards and (weight) downwards...

8Kgs is terrific Graeme! Good for you! And with the added exercise, you'll positively shrink!
