  • Trying again

Hi all my name is Pam and I have done Atkins since 2004 at which point my weight was 257 and i got down to 168 by the end of 2005. Then I became sick, alot of nausea and ended up after 8 months having a procedure called ERCP and started to feel much better yet weighing 185 ( all that forbidden food, I ate) then in the following two months as I was getting back on track I fell 4 feet and almost cut my right thumb off and was laided up another 3 months ending result 205 January 1 07 I went back on Induction I have only lost 14 lbs as of today. Seems this time around is much slower...is this common? Iam just so up set with myself for allowing this to happen. I do think that my clothes are fitting loser Any help will be appreciated.

    Re: Trying again

Welcome! Good for you for getting back on track. Don't beat yourself up for what is done...pat yourself on the back for taking charge again! 14 pounds is FABULOUS! As far as being slower than last time - you started last time quite a bit heavier - so you may have lost faster because you simply had more to lose! You're doing great! Hang around here - there's a great community here for support and inspiration! Glad you're back after all the medical and injury setbacks! It sounds to me like you are a real trooper destined for success!!

      Re: Trying again

I agree with Kylie, but I would like to add that sometimes - with the second time around - we tend to forget the rules. Meaning, that when you did Atkins the first time, you probably carried the book around with you and followed the rules of induction without fail. The second time around, we think that we know exactly what to do for induction when we might actually be remembering on going weight loss or varying stages (rungs). I highly recommend that you re-read the book.

Fourteen pounds is awesome, though. It is completely worth patting yourself on the back over. You can stick with it this time! We both can. Off we go...
      149.8/no weigh/ 119

      1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
      rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
      rung 4 - berries, melon
      rung 5 - wine -
      rung 6 - beans, hummus
      rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
      Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
      (on to pre-maintenance)

            Re: Trying again

Welcome Determined One! So glad you decided to get back on the Atkins wagon again!
I'd ditto what the others said... you're starting from a lower weight, so your loss will be slower. Also, for some of us, the second time around can be a little slower, but if you eat right, exercise and drink masses of water those pounds will go. Just focus on direction rather than speed. When you're at goal your journey to better health and a slimmer figure will seem to have passed in a flash.

Give a shout if you need help... there's always someone around to answer questions and lend a hand.

            Happy losing!

Hi determined! Welcome to the board. Slow but steady is the way to lose weight. As long as you're losing little by little, you are doing fine. 14 pounds gone on induction is terrific.

                  Re: Trying again

Hey there, Dr. Atkins says that slow is good, and those who go slow with weightloss have a higher chance of keeping it off. How's that sound? We all want it now, and have to accept our body has it's own time table. Glad to have you here.
