  • Ready to Fly

    Hi Everbody,

Well, it's time to introduce myself. I've been reading here for a couple of weeks as my husband and I did some research on the Atkins WOL and read the book. Everyone here is so nice and supportive, I have to say it was a big reason we decided to go forward with this WOE. Just from lurking here I know what a helpful bunch you all are and that we will find support here. Thank you so much, in advance.

I'll turn 44 on March 30. I have a wonderful husband and am proud to be the mother of our beautiful 2 yr. old son. I run my own business from home. My husband works out of the house sometimes, other times in. We've both just found out we have high LDL cholesterol and he has high blood pressure and is under tons of stress. Now we are very, very serious about weight loss and changing our lives for the better. Like all parents we want to be around for as much of our son's life as we can.

So yeah. That's me in a nutshell (but no nuts till after 2 weeks of induction ). I'm going to head over to the induction forum and post a bunch of questions so we'll be ready to start first thing in the morning.

The Nutshell: I'm a 43 yr old grrrrl, 5'4". Married to the best guy I've ever met (besides my Dad), with one very active toddler and I run my own pet sitting business.

I lost 4.8 lbs before Atkins. I started Atkins 2/10/07 and have lost 11.2 lbs so far.

    Hiya Procrastinatrix. Welcome to ADBB!
I just love your nic! Have to say that I'm one of those too... big time! My motto could be: "Why do something today, when you can put it off till tomorrow?"

How cool that you're going to follow this way of eating along with your husband! It's wonderful to have (and give) the support of/to someone close.

Most people find their cholesterol drops after a couple of months on Atkins... and for those who don't find that happens (like me), the LDL usually goes down and the HDL up, so you get a lovely lowering of your risk ratio. Although my total cholesterol is quite high, my risk ratio is off the charts in a positive way. When I asked my doc if I should go on eating eggs, cream, butter etc... he said: "Absolutely yes!!!".
I'm sure you'll find that your numbers improve dramatically too.

Feel free to ask any questions that might crop up... we all understand the trials and tribulations of changing way of life, and are happy to help out when we can.

    Happy Atkineering!

                Re: Ready to Fly

Awwww! Thank you all for the warm welcome. I really feel comfortable here. .

the Procrastinatrix is a handle I've been using on the internet for a couple years now. I started a blog called Inspired Procrastination several years ago, as something to do instead of my work. *giggle* I'm an intermittant blogger. Right now it's on a hiatus, but you never know when I'll get all rambunctious and start updating it again. The whole handle is a chunk to type, and one time I laughed my butt off (I wish ) when someone shortened it to Protrix.

My husband and I are doing this together which is always nice. We've teamed up on a lot of projects to great success. With this one, I'll be doing all the research and prep and management. He's under a deadline at work and can't spare a moment. Rather than wait til that project's done, I asked him if he'd be interested in me just preparing all the meals. He's gratefully agreed. I made him promise not to take one bite that's not on my menu for us. He appreciates all the work I'm doing, so he won't want to let me down. And I feel like I'm helping us live longer, better lives and that's my motivation.

I read the book and lurked around these forums for several weeks. I was inspired by the before and after pictures and all the success stories. But also by how encouraging everyone is if someone slips up.

I'm planning on joining the Abs challenge. I figure that even tho we're almost half way thru Feb, I can still challenge myself. Why wait? hmmmmm, if I keep up this way of thinking I may have to change my handle.

Water? I'm s'posed to be drinking water?

Just kidding! I'm drinking lots of water. Surprising how the more I drink, I'm still thirsty.
