  • Third Time is a Charm!

Hi everyone! I'm far from new to Atkins. I lost over 50 lbs. on Atkins in the early 1980's and kept it off over 10 years. Then I got off plan, and lazy, and gained it back and more. In 2001, I lost 75 lbs. again doing Atkins and looked and felt better than I ever had in my adult life. I kept it off until my Mom died in a tragic accident 2 years ago and I turned to comfort foods. (Not an excuse, just the truth - ). So, here I am again! Third time on Atkins with about 50 lbs. to lose! This time, I want to stay in Induction until I'm close to goal and then switch to Atkins WOL and stay with it!!!!

Anyone else lost on Atkins repeatedly? I saw a 2nd time around club but nothing about 3 timers!

Welcome to the boards and best of luck on your weight loss journey!

Most second, third, and even multiple timers will be able to tell you that staying on Induction until you're close to goal is a sure fire way to failure...Atkins really works best when you follow the phases correctly The ones that lose and keep it off are the ones that followed the plan carefully!

If you need anything, give a shout!

I read the original book years ago and just recently started reading the 2002 version. I guess I was under the mistaken impression that extended induction was recommended. That was the way I lost 75 lbs. in 2001. I may change my plan after I read through the rest of the book. I want to follow the plan however it will work best for me for life!

      Thanks!

Welcome! Don't be afraid of OWL. Those rungs are awesome awesome awesome! So many people think that Atkins is just....steak and eggs and bacon....I tell them all, you only touched on not even 1% of what I can eat! You just have to introduce those things back in to your WOL as the levels suggest. Anyway, good luck and keep us all updated.

Hey Mangaw! Welcome to the board. There are plenty of second time arounders in STAC, and thirds, and fourths etc. You've done it before, you can do it again and you will find plenty of support on the board along the way!

Re: Third Time is a Charm!

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I'm feeling a little frustrated today, so it was nice to read some encouraging words. I quit smoking 4-1/2 months ago, and it has wrecked havoc with my metabolism. I am very happy that I quit, and won't smoke, but it sure is making it harder to lose the weight.

I suppose approaching the big FIVE-OH isn't helping me any either.

The weight just "fell off" during induction in 2001, so that' what has me a little down. It looks like I'll have to work a little harder at it this time.

Welcome back to Atkins! This is my second time and the weight is not coming off like the first time. I was depressed in the beginning about it. It was so dramatic before. I was really looking forward to that big drop right off the bat. It didnt happen for me this time. But I am losing weight. And I feel great. I am now content with this WOE. I feel better than ever, I do not feel deprived in any way, and I am slowly shrinking. So whether it comes off fast or slow this time around for you just remember, it will come off eventually. Good luck!

                    Hiya Mangaw!

This is my second time at Atkins--I did it in 2003 and lost 70 pounds, but unfortunately, did it my own way and fell totally off plan. I also gained back all 70 plus 15 or 20 more. Now I'm making sure to do everything "by the book" and I'm so happy I made that decision! Previously, I stayed on induction for about 4 months--now I know why I fell off the wagon! This time I made sure to move to OWL, and I've been MORE successful this time than I was the first time. I noticed a HUGE drop of weight when I moved to OWL. And the best part of OWL? All the great foods I get to eat! I love it, and can totally see this as a WOL with no problems.

Anyway, STAC is great! We have daily check-ins and are here for support, questions, and advice. So glad you've joined ADBB! I credit this site for a lot of my success so far--I've gotten great advice, recipes, tips, information, and support that I wouldn't have gotten on my own!

Add me to the list of those that did induction for too long and didn't learn the important lessons of OWL and pre-maintenance before I was basically "at goal" and thought I had arrived and then got sloppy gained it all back and it brought friends! Stick around here - is a great resource!
