  • Nice to Meet Everyone! I'm Scared lol

    Hello there I'm new here been reading and reading though, I'm on day 2 of induction and I gotta admit I am scared to death I began eating a low fat, calorie counting diet on Jan 4th and have lost 12 pounds but then nothing this month I am like stuck at 247 I am female, 5'4, 43 yrs old... so I decided to try Atkins to curve the carbs.. I did an informal Atkins years ago, it was my version of meats and salads and I lost 28lbs that first month.. gained it all back and then some because I was a clown lol

    I am so afraid right now.. eating butter, bacon, fried eggs and such for breakfast when I use to have oatmeal and raisins. I am so afraid I'm gonna gain back the 12 lbs I lost I am trying to remember that this works but I am so scared right now. So I am on day 2 had a rough night just couldn't rest well felt tired and anxious and couldn't sleep, I'm sure it's withdrawals lol

    I love salads and even on a low fat diet I had them with just chicken or fish on the side, so that is no problem for me! Last time I did a KFC thingie and ate salads lol I did lose 28 lbs lol Shooey I even ate their coleslaw thinking it veggies lol Oh silly me... Please tell me I can do this, because this is the very opposite of what I was doing.. fruits, veggies, wheat, low fat, low calories...I have no cravings for sweets, and junk food, thought I'd never eat fried food again...


    Oh, please help me through this!!

    welcome...you have come to the right place for support thats for sure...



    I know how you feel.... the thought of eating real eggs fried in butter scared me to pieces....I avoided such things for so long they were taboo in my world.. This is day eight for me on induction... although i dont feel like i have lost much i know for certian i havent gained....and let me tell ya once i got the taste back for butter ...i want to butter the world....and to think I'm eating butter and not gaining weight is just like dying and going to heaven.....I think its embeaded in my head thanks to julie......fat is our friend .....fat is our friend.....fat is our friend...lol........ best of luck to you on your journey...

      Heya Smaller. Welcome to the board and (back to) this WoL. Just relax and drink your water. You won't gain back the poundage you lost... Are you tracking your food? One thing that you might want to pay attention to is your calories (since the low-fat/ low cal diets can be *soo* low that your body goes into starvation mode, sometimes it takes a little bit for it to adjust to being "allowed" to eat again)... What are you planning on doing for exercise? The challenges here are really great motivation to keep going.

        Welcome to the boards, you can do this. I was scared to death when I started, but I wasched my Blood sugars drop to a close to normal level and from there I knew this is right where I needed to be. I am 43 , 5'3 and had a starting weight of 277. My stats just show that if I can do this anyone can.

          Hello! We'll I calculated my calories per my weight, hgt, age etc so I was eating 1800 calories but low fat.. I'm afraid that on this diet I will be under lol I'm trying to count on fitday.. so far on my menu I have...

          Breakfast
          2 fried eggs with a sprinkle of cheese
          2 bacon
          16oz water

          Lunch

          2 cups Salad w/ 3 cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese, mushrooms, boiled egg and
          1 thin sliced deli ham
          2tbs Ranch Dressing
          16oz water

          Dinner

          Fried Fish
          Salad like above
          16 oz water

          Calories so far 863 Fat 57 Carbs 11 Protein 75

          Going to fry fish with no batter so the fat here is not correct this is just raw fish..didn't add mushrooms or tomatoes I can't find the correct serving on the list... I have no idea what I am doing lol

            Oh it's so nice to meet all of you!!.. last time I did a lil Atkins I didn't know a thing and lost 28 lbs this time I have the net and I'm scared to death hee hee...

            I just ate meat and salads when I was hungry.. I think I allowed myself 50g of carbs so for dinner I would have a small baked potatoe or maybe air popcorn for a snack

            I don't know why I am so uptight I think it's because I have just come off of a very healthy diet ..you know what I am trying to say? )

              Hi Smaller... warm welcome to you.

              You've taken a wonderful step towards better health and a slimmer figure, by opting for Atkins. Be assured that this is a very healthy way of eating, particularly when you hit rung one of OWL and add in those extra veggies. Basically, on Atkins you are taking out refined highly processed foods, starches and sugar, in favour of more veggies and "real" foods. Nothing very unhealthy about that, in my book.

              Like most, I'm sure you'll find that after several weeks eating this way your cholesterol, B/P and blood sugar numbers will all improve.

              Glad you lost weight low carbing in the past. So, you know it works. And it'll work again for you, I'm sure.

              If you want to do yourself a huge favour, get a hold of a copy of DANDR (2002 edition). Understanding the science behind the diet is fundamental to lasting success.

                Hello SmallerMe!

                Ditto everyone's advice! Atkins is an incredibly healthy plan; it focuses on eating whole, natural, unprocessed foods, and what could be better than that? I have never been healthier or more energetic in my life. And like french said, Fat is our FRIEND. That is what our bodies will be using for fuel, so by all means, fuel it up! Check out fitday to see if your percentages are 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein.

                    Hey Smaller! Welcome to the board! From what you've listed here you are not eating enough calories. If you eat too little, you will not lose constant weight as your body will think it's starving itself! You should never eat less than 1200 calories and with your current weight, you should really be eating more like 2000+ calories per day. Also, you've only had 11 carbs when you should be eating closer to 20! So the good news is, eat more!

                    My only other comment on the menu is that you should strive to be eating 30% protein 65-70% fat and 5-7% carb so eating more food will help to adjust your percentages.

                    I recommend this site to everyone: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
                    It does require some reading around to fully understand but it will tell you how many calories you need to eat to maintain your current weight if you do absolutly nothing all day (your basal metabolic rate). You will be surprised at the amount of calories you will be able to eat and till lose weight, honest!

                      I wanted to thank you very much for the great welcome and encouragement but I've decided to stick with my low fat, fruits and veggies .. I have trouble with the heart of the diet, but I didn't want to shy away without saying thank you!

                      I wish you all well.. I have learned what it takes to win the battle over the bulge I've surrendered the fatty foods, soda pop and sweet treats, I learned to work my tail of exercising, I've even learned to drink water lol so I'll keep heading that a way! ) I'm proud of the weight I have lost now I need to keep at it!! )
