  • New Here - You guys rock!

Hey guys. I've been looking around the site for a few days and am so amazed at what you guys have accomplished! I've been frustrated for some time, doing everything from WW to cabbage soup (blech) to lose weight only to plateau after very little weight loss then gain it right back. Amazing that I tried cabbage soup before Atkins, right?! I was able to do okay with BFL in the past, but I don't have that kind of time anymore to spend an hour and a half at the gym. I'm going 5 days a week now, but only for about a half hour during my lunch then just try to work out HARD to make up for the short amount of time.

I am 32, married with 3 kids (15 year-old girl, 11 year-old boy and 20 month-old little girl.) I work full-time as a legal assistant and go to college part-time. I'm starting on Monday so any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to have to study up on what's best to eat and what not. I have a general idea, but not a good grasp on it yet. One girl told me she doesn't even eat veggies in the beginning but then I read that green leafy type are okay?

    Thanks everyone. You're an inspiration!

    Pam

      Hi Pam!

You sound like you're going to be busy busy busy. So my best advice is: PLAN AND PREPARE! (like the old addage says, "When you fail to plan you plan to fail.") Atkins is a great lifestyle and a great change of life but it is that--a change. Read the induction section carefully, read all the stickies on here, take your before pictures, measurements, and weight (so many of us neglected to do this because we were so ashamed of being so large and really regretted it later!). Utilize the tools available including FitDay.com to track your foods and your exercise, make mini- goals for exercise and water consumption and figure out which vitamins you think you'd want to add to your diet.

Most importantly--STICK TO IT! For many of us, the first time on Atkins was our most successful. You can do it, and you deserve it!!

Then I gained some back, but let's not talk about that, shall we? 194.6/193.2/177.5/120

Re: New Here - You guys rock!

        WELCOME!
I second that. Get the book. You can also get some info on the Atkins website- but beware of some false info bout the shakes/bars and the Induction menu. (the sample menu they have on there includes some not so induction friendly items!) The shakes and bars are labeled as acceptable as well, but as most of the people on here will tell you to stay away from them, they may stall/ slow down weight loss.

Also print out a list of the "acceptable foods" during induction. Print a few copies. I have one stuck on my fridge door. I have one I take to the store, and one small size I keep with me in my purse.

Some other advice I found helpful: Prepare meals in advance. Saves lots of time. I prepare my brkfst and lunch the nite before, so no rushing or wondering what to eat. Plan out your meals before going to the store as well. Also, try some veggies on the acceptable list that you've never tried before- you may be amazed at how tasty some of them are. I tried spaghetti squash for the first time the other nite.. YUM!

DRINK YOUR WATER! Very important. I sip my throughout the day while at my desk at work. Take a sip every few minutes, before you know it , your daily water is done!

Also, ask questions when you need to.. there are so many helpful people on here.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks everyone. I'll get the book this weekend, make a grocery list, put the good foods in my purse and be off! I've been watching the YouTube Atkins videos that someone on here did as well - very helpful!
