  • New member with a few questions! ;)

Hey my name is Danny. I'm 17 years old and I'm from the UK. I plan on losing about 2 stone. Ever since I left school I just ate myself into a frenzy. Ive now put on loads of weight around my face and body and plan on losing this by going on the atkins diet. I have a few questions if you wouldnt mind answering.

    1. What was the main areas u were noticing weight loss?
    2. did you lose weight in the face?
    3. how long do you think it will take me to lose my desired 2 stone?
    4. Where have you guys been getting your atkins diet plan from, shall I be needing a book?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: New member with a few questions!

Welcome Danny, glad you joined us.

    1. I have noticed weight loss all over, if I had to pick a main area I'd say my belly.
    2. I have loss weight in my face, my cheeks are less round and my doublechin is smaller
    3. Really hard question to answer for two reasons. 1. I don't know what 2 stone is (sorry I'm American). 2. Everyone is different, vastly different. As a 17 year old male you will proabably lose weight faster then just about anyone else but that isn't guaranteed at all, there are just so many factors that can change that around. You should keep in mind though that after Induction this program is designed to SLOW your weight loss down, get you used to how you need to eat, find out what you can safely eat, find out how much you should eat to lose weight and how much to maintain your weight. Ideally once you get within about 5 pounds of your goal you will go very very slowly with the remaining so that you can truely make this a way of life, not just a way to lose weight.
    4. You definately need the book. You hear people all the time on this board that tried to do Atkins using what they thought was right, or what they found online or whatever who had a lot of difficulties and they figured out later that they simply didn't realize that they were doing something wrong because they never read the book. So please please get the book and read it ASAP.

I think it's great that you are here and you are starting as young as you are. I'm sure I speak for many people when I say that I wish that I had had the foresight to get my weight under control when I was your age.

    It's so worth it.

This is definately the place to be for encouragment. I joined this board about 3 months or so ago and I've found this community invaluable for its support and advice.

As far as buying the book, for the best deal I would probably call around to local used books stores first. The official title is "Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution", just make sure you get the 2002 version.

If that doesn't work then Amazon sells it, and most book stores around here do too. I bought mine at a retail book chain called Barnes and Noble. Not sure what the equivelant would be where you are.

I heard somewhere that people gain from the bottom up, and lose from the top down! All I know is, my chin/neck is the first place I notice loss. You could join us in the March Double Chin Challenge over at the exercise challenges!

Re: New member with a few questions!

Hello Danny, welcome to the board, I'm sorry that I got here late! What a day.

I thought this might be of interest to you, there is a television series on HBO called the Sopranos, one of the main characters (season 1) was a very overweight 14 year old name Robert Iler. In 2005, 16 year old Robert Iler lost 25 pounds on the Atkins Diet, reducing his weight from 180 pounds to 155 pounds. Here it is 2007 and Robert Iler still weighs right at 155 pounds.

There is a Chef on Food TV, his name is George Stella, his family (Father, Mother, 2 Sons) lost a total of 560 pounds eating a low carb life style. His 15 year old son went from 300 pounds to 140, and his older son went from 225 to 160!!!

I only mention this of course out of the fact that your 17. To be 100% honest with you, I'm 44 years old and was blown away that a teenager could do that, and about a year ago, I decided to seriously give this way of life a chance. Wow! 295 to to 228 and still going! Other than a slight deviation, I have remained pretty steadfast to this plan!

                    So................

Answer 1 - I've lost the weight pretty evenly on my body, with some pretty bizarre loss's in my wrist, hands, neck, fact, and thankfully....stomach!

Answer 2 - Oh yes, my facial features changed pretty drastically, not as puffy, much healthier skin, etc.

Answer 3 - Unfortunately, not going to be able to give you much insight here. You may lose quickly, being so young, but everybody reacts differently...as Grant said (thanks Grant!!!) you could lose a lot quickly, but you really want it to slow down and find a happy medium and lose the rest slower. The slower you lose the easier it is to adjust to the plan. Understand?

answer 4 - Oh yes, by all means, get a copy of the book. Read the whole book, don't just skim through the induction section, read it all it will really help you to understand where we're all coming from!

I really hope to hear more from you! Keep us posted on your success!!

Im currently 147 pounds, I know that may not seem alot to what some of you are dealing with, however I do feel I dont carry this weight well.

Since I've been introduced to you, where shall I be posting next?

                      Thanks in advance.

Hey Danny! Yes thats the right book. I'm so excited for you to recieve it and read it. Mine is all highlighted with those high lighting markers - I tend to write notes in my books. lol

You can post anywhere you wish - well not the womans forum because thats for women. But there is a mens forum too. That you can post in, I believe you need to join that section by letting one of our admins know.....send a pm to Richt and he should be able to help you with that.

Hiya Danny. I am new here too. I just bought the book a few days ago, and it is very insightful and explains in detail (without using "attorney" language) why this diet works for your body.
On the question of where you lose it first, personally, I always see it in my face and legs first.

GOOD LUCK on your journey, Danny, and may your younger age make it easier for you!

Hi Danny! The book will really help you to understand the way this style of eating works. How tall are you and how much do you intend to lose?
