  • Food Allergy- Chicken

Good morning, I started this diet yesterday morning. Although last night I had issuess with dinner, specifically the dessert.

Today I am back at it and have set goals.

I am curious if anyone else out there is allergic to poultry? All poultry, I cannot eat chicken, turkey, duck, quail or anything else. I can eat eggs they do not seem to bother me.

Also while I am asking questions, where can I find on here a 2-7day menu?

About me, Im 36 I weigh in close to 265 and Im 6'. Most people say I carry it well. I watched a video of myself last night which was taped earlier in the week as part of a communications class that I am in. All I can say is that I am fat.

I am an avid cyclist in the summer.

Hello Gadgetohio. Welcome to the board. We're happy you decided to alter your way of eating by going low carb the Atkins way.

Sorry to hear about your issues with poultry... but don't worry... you can easily do Atkins eating beef, pork, seafood etc. plus lots of veggies (more after the induction phase).
As for the menus... if I remember right, there are menus in the Atkins book: Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. If you get hold of a copy (highly recommended for the success of this diet), then get the 2002 edition which is the last one Dr A wrote in its entirety.

To be honest though, you don't really need menus... in induction you just eat what's on the acceptable foods list and nothing else. Pretty easy. Later on in OWL you add in more foods gradually.

Good to hear you are an avid cyclist! Exercise is a real help in speeding up weight loss.

    Happy losing!

Hi gagetohio! Welcome to the board. Besides chicken items, do you eat cheese, beef, pork, lamb, veal etc??? You should have no problems finding meats that aren't chicken. Go have a look at the recipe forum, there's tons of great induction friendly recipes there.

        Welcome gadgetohio!

Glad to have you with us. Like Sally said, you don't really need a menu plan, however, look here .... http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html for a little direction. Also there are menus in the Atkins book: Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution.

I'm sorry to hear about the 'poultry allergies' but there are lots of different ways to get the protein, veal, beef, shrimp, fish, and all those wonderful veggies Sillygirl mentioned!

Seriously though make sure you get hold of a copy of 2002 edition of Dr Atkins book, it is chocked full of helpful advice to get you moving in the direction you want to go!!!

        Keep us posted!

Just out of curiosity, what happens when you eat poultry? I have never heard of anyone being allergic to poultry meat and not eggs, only the other way around.

I was raised a vegetarian, began eating meat in college. Whenever i was faced with the chance to eat chicken I always shyed away from it.

So when I eat it, which happens accidentally sometimes, mixed in unknown to me I break out in hives get facial swelling etc.

IS BEEFJERKY allowed during induction, says 0carbs but less than 1%?

Beef Jerky is allowed, however, not store bought. They say 0 carbs, but I've not found any that doesn't have some type of sugar in it. I make my own. If you'd like I can post a couple recipes for you. I think there might already be a Beef Jerky recipe or two by Heidi in the recipe section.
