  • Found an Aspartame free diet soda

    Hi all,

Not sure if you're aware of this but my grocery store carries a soda called "Waist Watchers" no-carb soda made with Splenda. I picked up root beer, a citrus flavor that tastes like Fresca and ginger ale. It was nice to have a root beer with my burger last night.

TSWAN, I'm in the area as well, would you mind indicating which store this is ? Hopefully it's a chain and there's one out by me in Manassas.

Sure. It's at Giant and it's even on sale! Three cases for $9.

      Good luck.

Remember.....1 diet soda = all 3 of your sweetened items for the day!!! Does it still have caffiene....be careful...dangerous ground guys....you're still better off with Water!! Lots of it!

aww c'mon dad, it's the weekend. just kidding.

True. I don't know why I'm so afraid to just "give up the ghost" on these items. Caffiene in particular. I don't how I'm going to function without it.

I was hoping the Diet Rootbeer with Splenda didn't have caffiene, I was going to get that for the Diet Rootbeer with Splenda and Heavy Whipping Cream drink/treat.

            P.S. Scooter, 295-226 = 69 lbs. You've lost 70 lbs since Feb 2007 ?

Re: Found an Aspartame free diet soda

Don't give up, and that might work for you, I'm just wanting you to realize (dude, seriously....I was a 12 pack a day diet coke drinker) that it can possibly cause stalls is all. 1 leads to 2 leads to 3 leads to out of control. If you're taking in your water, I'm not going to lie, I drank 1 diet coke with splenda during my entire induction phase, I lost 20 pounds. I continued to do that up around 45 pounds, then it stopped, no matte what I did, a month went by. I dropped my Diet Coke with Splenda to 1 -3 a week, dropped the coffee from 1 a day to 1 on the weekends, and then another 15 pounds melted off.

I know the cravings are terrible, epecially if you lived on the stuff....I just want you to know it could trigger your blood sugar which could involve other 'cheats' ya know....

Dad....(haha you made me laugh man!!)

              Have a wonderful weekend!!

Re: Found an Aspartame free diet soda

Thanks Scooter, you too. I have been drinking one cup of coffee (today I had two .... induction flu blues ) two to three caffiene free diet cokes and one diet rootbeer.

I'm going to stop that. Starting with the aspartame. It's really the caffiene I'm skeered of giving up ...

who knows I might wake up tomorrow without the induction flu and be ready to take on anything and everything in my path.

I have to say had I frequented the atkins boards more back when I first tried this WOE, I could cry thinking about where I could be now. (I'm a lifter, there's a ton of lean mass under this fat).

But as some friends of mine say "It takes what it takes" and I think I've had about all I can stand of doing it my way, I'm at least willing to be willing to do it the way you successful and succeeding people have done it.

Thanks for all your help this week.

Waist Watchers contains no caffeine, no sodium, sugar or aspartame. Their website is at http://www.waist-watcher.com/

I'm still drinking plenty of water but it's nice to have a root beer once in a while. Fortunately I'm not addicted to soft drinks or caffeine.

Reading this makes me rather glad it's hard to come by diet drinks where I am. There is one I miss particularly though, and that is slimline tonic. I'd really enjoy the odd gin and tonic (am at maintenance)... particularly in the summer.

I bought the book this weekend and it says you can have diet cokes and coffee with caffeine. Why do people on here keep saying that we can't have it? Are you guys that keep knocking it anti-caffeine? I know it's not for everyone, but if the book says it's ok, then shouldn't it be ok?

I am not trying to sound rude either, just a little frustrated today. Oh, and root beer is caffeine free.

                              xecutech,

I think these folks are helping people on their induction cycle and how to get a clean induction.

                              Acceptable Beverages

Be sure to drink a minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day, including:

                              Filtered water
                              Mineral water
                              Spring water
                              Tap water
Additionally, you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
                              Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
                              Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.
I remember reading somewhere, that caffeine can have an impact on blood glucose levels. Since so much of this diet has to do with blood sugar, I can see where caffiene might present a problem.

Aspartame has several documented nasties, but I'm not sure of its impact on blood glucose and such.

It seems to me, induction, allows us to all start off on the same foot. Shake our habits down to the core and rebuild some fundamental eating habits from the ground up. Depending upon how clean that induction is and how much of our habits we break determines if we're building on solid ground or sand.

Perhaps as we move up the rungs and begin to get to know our bodies better we will know how much caffiene is okay and how much is not etc.. etc..

That's how I'm interpreting the information available here and elsewhere.

Good luck, I feel your pain, I'm in the middle of induction flu still and going through caffiene withdrawal myself.
