  • Hello Everyone

    Hi all,
My wife and I are starting Atkins induction today. I am a lifetime dieter Optifast twice, Atkins years ago, cut calories, etc. Nothing sticks. I am currently 345lbs at 6'3" 36yo and want to get down to @220lbs. Any words of advice, criticisms, helpful hints, etc, just send em right on. I'm sure I'll get to know many of you in the months to come.

              Re: Hello Everyone

Hi Scott! Hi Mrs. Scott! It is nice to meet you both. As far as nothing sticking, is it because you don't follow the programme as it is laid out? Or do you just have a hard time with stopping yourself from things you crave. Either way, I think the best advice to give is to do a clean induction, that doesn't include anything that is not on Dr. Atkins induction list. Make sure you are reading his book, Dr. Atkins new diet revolution (2002 edition I believe?) and read the whole thing cover to cover! Don't stop at parts you think may not apply to you. It is well worth the read when you end up with questions he covers in his book.

Avaoid boredom with your food, that has been key to my and my hubby's success. And move your body! IUt doesn't matter what you do. Walking, swimming riding a bike, all are exercise and good for you, so get moving. Dr. Atkins said exercise is not negotiable! LOL *don't you wish he did tho'?* Also drink plenty of water. If you need any help always ask, no problem is too small or something that someone around here hasn't experienced in one form or another.

Try joining the men's forum for asking things that are best kept between the guys.

Other than that, you seem like you are set to go, and following DANDR (the book) should get you to your goal in short order! Best of luck and happy low carbing!

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

Hi and welcome! I thought I'd poke my head in here since my DH and I have been each other's support for 3+ years. He's been my rock and has maintained his amazing 75 pound loss for almost 3 years. I have learned to like cooking a lot more too. Be sure and check out Linda Sue's awesome recipe site for inspiration! http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

If you'll make this way of life, not just another diet, I guarantee you success!

                      Re: Hello Everyone

Thanks for all the advice and responses. We both have read the book cover to cover (and boy do alot of the sections apply to me). We have now tried the mock danish (not bad) and are doing our best to follow a clean induction. The water and exercise are going to be the hardest parts but we understand them to be necessary. It is hard to form new habits, as by the results you have all seen, you all know. I started this year off ar 373lbs and brought it down to my starting weight of 345 by drinking protien shakes. I have decided it is time for a real lifestyle change instead of a diet. Please look for my wife to poke her head in on the board soon. She has MUCH less to lose than me. More of a personal goal to get fit rather than to save her life like me. Oh well, here goes today...and I will be successful today. Hope everyone has a great day as well.

                            Re: Hello Everyone

WooHoo! 5 pounds lost already. I know it is mainly water weight but that is the way it starts. By the way, about the avitar. When I was a kid I loved comic books. The character in the avitar is The Blob from the X-Men comic books. He is closest to how I feel right now. As I am successful in changing my physique, my avitar will change to other characters who reflect this at the time. Maybe one day Wolverene will appear.

Thanks for the great board and posts from everyone. This is an excellent resource and motivational tool. All the administrators and moderators deserve an applause
