  • Help getting into Ketosis!!!???

    Hello Everyone~

I am new to ADBB, but not a stranger to Atkins! This is my second time around and I started a week ago. (The first time I did it, I lost 40 lbs) But I really need some help and I can tell this is the place to get it! This time around.... I am eating exactly what I ate before and I cant seem to get into ketosis. I bought the ketostix and nothing shows up! Is is harder for your body to get in ketosis when you've done the diet previously?? Any advice would be great!! I have really been inspired by everyones blogs and before and after pics are incredible!!

    Thanks!

Hello MrsJ and welcome to the board! Glad you found us here.

Re the ketostix... I wouldn't fret about those...everyone reacts differently and there can be many factors which affect whether they show pink/purple or not. Being in ketosis is not synonymous with losing weight... you could quite easily be losing and not show any change in colour at all. Time of day, water consumption, brand, age of stix... are just some factors that can have an effect on their reaction.

      Re: Help getting into Ketosis!!!???

I agree...I wouldn't rely heavily on the Keto sticks.
My mom is someone who doesn't get a good read with those but she loses consistently on the diet. I would say if you are following the plan and you are losing weight/inches then you are in ketosis. Some people for whatever reason just don't get that feedback from the keto sticks and that can be a trap for some because you can feel defeated.

Don't let it be you...if you aren't losing weight ( at least 1-3lbs a week) then reassess your intake. Do you journal your food each day? Are you getting in the right amount of veggies...are you indulging too much on some things that are considered just less than a carb like some cheeses and creams? If you eat 16-20 carbs daily and not losing ...drop it down by 2 or 3 and see if that helps.

Everyone is different...and your body may have changed so the level of carbs that produced great WL the first time around for Induction might not work this time. My first time around 18-20 carbs I lost 3-4 lbs a week...then I got off track and tried it again and kept the same level and barely lost anything and go discouraged and gave up. I am now trying again after a year...this time its my real 2nd time trying and I have kept my carbs around 12-14 each day and I have lost a lb each day. That's me...just keep at it and don't worry about the keto sticks.

      Hugs, Mel

Ketostix are as bad as the scales...I never once was able to get them to turn...useless little things lol

        Best of luck!
