    Re: no willpower

Hey, you're doing great. 8 pounds is wonderful. Quitting smoking is a good idea, but probably when you are just starting induction is not the best time. Your body is going through withdrawal from carbs/sugar already. My suggestion would be to wiat a few weeks and then try to quit smoking.

And as you probably know, exercise is very important so anything you can do is a plus.

      Re: no willpower

WL is a lifestyle change and not alot of people can accomplish that and then add another lifestyle change that is just addicting? I would definately give yourself some time to adapt to Atkins and have it work for you before you try to stop smoking. WHen you do decide to quit again...there are many things now available to help you with that process so you can wean yourself gradually and not cold turkey.

Good luck and congrats on your loss so far!

Welcome to ADBB Mistressg, and congratulations on your loss so far. I'm sure you'll find that this is a really good place for support and inspiration.
I think you're wise not to try to do too much all at once. Once you get into a comfortable routine with Atkins you might feel more like taking on the challenge of giving up smoking.

Best wishes to you for a successful Atkins journey!

Thank you zencyn, sallyseachange and MissMell for words of encouragement and support. Its very much apreciated,I went out out for a meal today, and stuck to the diet, meat and broccoli and cauliflower. My saving grace is coffee with cream ,I love it,it stops hunger and stops Me craving sweet things, counting the carbs in the cream I dont even use too many (I think)though I have 6 mugs a day .Please dont tell Me I'm counting wrong.
          hugs o helpers.

Hi mistrressg, welcome to the board. Cream does have carbs in it, approximately 1 carb per ounce (of heavy cream). It sounds like you're off to a good start, 8 pounds is fantastic.

              MistressG,

8 pounds so far, how wonderful!!! Maybe the quitting smoking will have to be put aside while you're trying to focus on this way of eating. My sister was trying to do the same thing, (her poor husband) and she finally opted to get her eating habits in order first (thank god).

Best of luck! Life is good!

                  Hi Gill,

Quitting smoking is TOUGH! I'd hold off on that until you get a solid routine with Atkins going first.

What you might do to cut down a bit is grab a straw and use that as your cigarette on occasion. When I quit years ago, it was the habit and want for more air that needed a replacement. So "take a drag" off the straw, inhaling and exhaling clean air instead of the smoke.

Otherwise, one major goal at a time! That's enough for anyone!

Probably knocked you right out of ketosis. But I would go directly back to the proper weights of foods on the induction menu, drink 100oz of water a day and don't weigh yourself for a week.

                        Re: no willpower

Hey Gill, you are doing well. Eight pounds is awesome. When you fall off the wagon as the best of all people are going to do once in a blue moon, just jump right back on and keep going. Remember that coffee as well as cream have carbs. Coffe is 1 carb for every 8oz, also try to have decaf, it will help. Caffien stimulates the appetite and will make you feel more hungry. Heavy cream (35%) has one carb for one oz. Smoking is a tough one to quit. I agree that you need to wait until you are established in this new way of eating before you go changing too many things. It takes time, so be patient. As far as cheating is concerned, try really hard to be prepared in advance and speak up to friends about going to places that will have foods you can eat that won't hurt your goals. Keep going, you'll be at goal in no time!

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

Thank you for the comments and help all.Its much apreciated.

Today is day 15 ,I have lost 13 lbs.I am over the moon,it is soo easy,it suits Me down to the ground,I am going to keep induction up for longer, but will take note of what I may do in the next stage as I am going away for a luxury break over easter, and may need to up My carbs to make things a little easier.I havn't looked at the next stage yet though so I hope I have some nice surprizes in store.
I have a friend doing this with Me,so we are supporting each other tho I'm losing more than her, poor thing ,I think she may be taking too many carbs.
Though today I lost a friend,I have not thought of comfort eating.I am satisfied by My creamy coffee and a can of fizzy drink to give Me My sweet kicks.
I will hopefully be giving up smoking this weekend as I'm going with someone who doesnt smoke.I feel ready so will give it a go.
