Hi Im a 34 year old Male who is married and have 4 kids. I have been married 10 years and with the home cookin and an office job I have put on a bit of weight, A LOT of weight actually. A friend recommended Atkins and here I am. I have checked out alot of the forums and everyone seems great. one question though: Why is there some forums i cant go to? ie the womans and mens? other than that I have no questions yet. My wife does not have any weight to lose but she will cook me atkins meals and I have an atkins chocolate coconut bar for breakfast. Im imagining it will be hard making speacialty meals but shes very encouraging. thanks for letting me introduce myself and I hope to talk and get to know you all more

Hi welcome to the board, the womens and mens forums are locked forums, if you want into the mens forum all you have to do is Private message one of the moderators you see listed down there at the bottom of the forum, and they'll let you in, but you must have Male in your signature. I hope you find this board helpful and supportive, there are many wonderful people here to answer questions, or simply get you through any tough spots, I would recommend that you get the book Atkins New Diet Revolution, and you and your wife both read it, because technically you shouldn't eat those bars for at least the first few weeks, only healthy unprocessed foods... again welcome.Female

Well 1st congrats on being here-its such a wonderful and suportive place-
as for the womens forum y our a male so not allowed but all you need to do is PM(private message) a moderator on the mens forum and youll be let in when they get your message.
also, it wont be too hard for your wife to make atkins meals- when my BF is in town i make hima burrito or taco(regularly) and i make myself a cheese taco- there are lots of great and easy recipies in the recipe section at the top of the page and also on the forums below-its even broken into catagories.
VERY IMPORTANT-- food like the bars/shakes things like that are NOT reccomended and is not a True Atkins Induction- the only thins aloweed at least for the 1st 2 weeks is meat cheese eggs and veggies- if you haven tgot the book y ou should- and also make a print out of the acceptable foods list you can find it at the top of this form (i think) or do a search for it-id link it but i dont know how- these foods bars/shakes/cereal things like this are considered frankenfoods they stall people and you wont lose as much weight as you will without them-
well the best of luck to you- remember to eat ONLY the safe foods list and to drink lots of water.. also come here often it really helps and you ge tlots of support and idea. :waveORIGINALLY STARTED:

Hi, Welcome to the
ha !!
You really should get the book and read it. It will help you understand how Atkins works and how to get the best results. I'm glad you found this board and that your wife is supportive of your weight loss plan. that wil make it much easier for you. It helps to make a mental plan of what you are going to eat for the next week...that will help you so you aren't tempted to go back to your old ways of eating.
This WOE (Way of Eating) is fantastic. It really works. There are many forums here in the ADBB that will help you with any problems or concerns you have. Again, the book is essential for doing Atkins correctly. Make sure you get the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition.
Everyone here is great for giving inspiration and encouragment. If you have any questions -- just post. Best Wishes!!Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Welcome!
I, too, and new to the "club". I started Induction on the 14th. I had a go 'round with the Induction forum regarding Shakes during Induction. One book says Ok the other says no. I was finally convinced that the sweetness of the shake was feeding my sweet tooth monster (even just a tiny bit) and I would have a better time controlling my cravings if I kicked every bit of sweet out for awhile. It is too early for me to tell if the shakes would have caused a stall, or caused a slow weight loss, but, darn it... I am going to do this as right as possible. I want it to be as effective as possible.
I am a sugar/sweet/carb addict, and I was acting like one in hoarding the last shake in the freezer. The Induction forum support helped me throw it in the trash.
I CAN LIVE TWO WEEKS WITHOUT SWEETS!
You can do it too. Good luck!

Welcome to
ha . To save you alot of confusion--read the book the Dr. Atkins wrote, not the one written after his death! The one you want is Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition--we refer to it on the board as DANDR 2002. Dont' waste your $$ on "the Atkins Essentials"--alot of bad info there--its like a big advertisement for Atkins low carb products--you will have much more success sticking w/ the good Dr's plan the way he intended it to be!
