  • Hi, I am from Sweden!

I am on my 8th day of instruction and I do need some help!

I am doing exactly as I am supposed to do (I've read the Atkins book and a looot on the Internet) but I am not loosing weight at all. Actually I am GAINING weight. Do anyone has a suggestion about that? I am getting very frustrated and this is not helping at all do deal with the sweating, the headache and so on...

Maybe you should know that I started loosing weight in januari this year by eating healthy (well not if you think Atkins of course...) vegetarian dishes and counting calories. This and a lot of training helped me losing 22 pounds.

In the beginning of march I was tired of counting and getting some problems with my disciplin plus that I felt too week to train as hard as I wanted. In order to gain more muscle power (I am running and doing martial arts) I started seeking the net for information about protein food and - of course - I ended up on Atkins. It seemed to be so logical and easy that I ordered a book and started immediatly after reading it. So far so good. But, as I said, I am gaining weight, I can't digest, all the fat is making me sick, the dishes are booooring (remember: I usually tend to eat vegetarian as I don't like the taste of meat so much). Of course I am eating fish and chicken (next time I have to eat chicken I will throw up), shrimps, eggs (same here...) and some red meat sometimes. I am at that point that I rather wouldn't eat at all instead of continuing with this. And yes, I am drinking enough water, eating my vitamins and flaxseeds...

I really try to be creative, adding spices and herbs to the food, finding varieties... but it sucks! I am starving for some vegetables! And, not losing ONE pound is really annoying me.

PLEASE help me! I do need some support, ideas, accomplishment, whatever, please convince me to keep going!

Please excuse my spelling, I did my best!

    Hi Stargirl,

First of all, well done on losing 22lbs already

It's a shame you're finding it hard - it sounds like you have read up on it all well. It could be the addition of more animal proteins and fat - and might be something that will sort itself out. Perhaps try meat alternatives - such as tofu, or I eat quorn (though is not strictly induction friendly). There is a useful post about vegetarian Atkins which might help you. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6729

Perhaps you could post some more about your age, weight and height as well as a sample menu or two so everyone could look them over and have a think?

    Also, your spelling is fine

Re: Hi, I am from Sweden!

Hello there Stargirl and welcome to the board! Congratulations on your 22 lbs already lost on a vegetarian diet and with exercise.

I'm sorry you're having difficulties with the taste of meat and with eating more protein. I see you're missing your vegetables.
Remember though that the induction phase need only be for two weeks... after which you can begin adding extra vegetables and extra carbs, by moving to OWL. You say the fat is making you feel sick and that you are gaining weight. How much fat are you actually eating? Perhaps it's a little too much. Although the focus of Atkins is on carbohydrates and not calories, this doesn't mean you can eat ladlefulls of fat and still lose. You have to eat to satisfy your hunger and no more. If you do that, and stick to the programme the way it is supposed to be done you should be fine and should start losing soon.
Please don't think I'm jumping to conclusions... I realise that, perhaps you are already eating to satisfy your hunger only. Maybe your body is reacting to the sudden change from a vegetarian diet to an omniverous one and is hanging on to the weight temporarily. If that's the case, then sooner or later it'll realise you're serious and give way. Then you should see the scale move.

Why don't you post a few days menus in the Review My Menu Forum, where someone will advise where you can tweak your diet, if necessary.

Keep us posted as to your progress. We're behind you 100%.

Re: Hi, I am from Sweden!

        Hi!

Thanx for the warm welcome. Maybe it is certainly difficult for me as meat and egg aren't my favorite dishes. I couldn't stand the smell of fried meat before and now during the diet it got even worse. NO, I am not pregnant ;-))

I will post the meal of a day or two in the forum you recommended, Sally. After all, it is "only" 14 days I have to handle.
