  • I am new to Atkins

Hi?! My name is Carolyn and I started this new way of eating and living and I am finding it very hard. I have been on it for four days and even in the midst of doughnets and bagels here at work I am staying faithfull, but I am always hungry. Does anyone have some sugestions? I have not lost any weight and I have only ate meat and cheese and started water today. I feel like I am doing something wrong. Thanks for your help and encouragement!

    Welcome to Carolyn!

Glad you've decided to post! I can find a few things wrong that might help you...

    1) Have you read the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition)? If not I strongly advise you to pick one up as soon as possible. They are quite cheap. It explains Atkins and exactly how to go about following the plan and why it works. Knowing why it works is just as important as knowing how to follow it.

2)You say you're eating only meat and cheese...on induction, we are required to eat 3 cups of salad vegetables per day. As the rule states:

"Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three loosely packed cups of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see Acceptable Foods)."

    3) Are you excercising? It is non-negotiable if you plan to achieve some success.

    4) Take measurements! The scale usually lies...the best way to gauge success is how you feel and what the measuring tape says.

These are just a few problems areas I could pick out. I would advise you to check out the Induction forum as well and find a list of the complete rules of induction, which should tide you over until you can get your hands on the book.

You can find the rules here: https://atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/node/6004

Best of luck on your weight loss journey and if you need anything just give a shout!

Hi Carolyn. Jace was right, you need to eat veggies, not just meat and cheese. The reason this WOE works so well is that unlike 'diets' where you walk around starved all the time, you can actually eat till you're satisfied on Atkins. As far as the will-power ~ try making a list of why you want to lose the weight. Read inspirational stories, get motivational photos and quotes that will help you stay focused. For me, it was getting active here with others who were cheering me on and sharing their success that inspired me to not give up on myself. You can do it. There's so much information, inspiration and friends here to help you. Best wishes. If you need help, just holler - the support is here every day!

Re: I am new to Atkins

Hey! Im fairly new to this diet too. If you are hungry you should eat. Just make sure you are drinking enough. Sometimes when you are really running low on fluids the body mistakes that as being hungry. If you are not fond of plain water check out some of those flavored waters. They have them anywhere they sell sodapop. I have reach a point where I have lost alot of my appetite. I would bring some snacks to work with you that are okay for you to have. Sugar free jello cups, certain brands of beef jerkys. I was told if you dehydrate your own with a food dehydrator with soy sauce & spice you can get out ahead on carbs. Good luck, and dont lose faith.

You can't eat your cake and have it your way. Darn.
