  • Okay Atkins- Gonna bring SEXY back

Hi, I'm Jodi. I am going to unleash my inner hotty before I am done.

    My first question:

I keep cheating on the induction phase, does this mess anything up in the long term or can I just try again? I am starting over again today. Granted, my cheats aren't bad, for instance I keep drinking Diet Snapple Rasberry Tea because I am an addict. I have cut them down from three a day to only a half yesterday but I think it is keeping me from losing weight. I have been in the induction phase for 3 weeks now and have only lost 5 pounds and that is probably only water weight. LOL.

Hence, I am here to get support and hopefully not keep falling off the lunch wagon.

Re: Okay Atkins- Gonna bring SEXY back

Welcome Jodi!!! I love the title..LOL

Okay....if you drop EVERYTHING not on the induction list and wanna restart...go for it!! But if you continue to have those things you aren't supossed to have...really you won't be any better of than you are now, ya know?

I have rererererestarted induction a trillion times and I have to tell you, it gets a little bit harder each time...the habits are harder to break and I would swear you body gets used to the yo-yoing and becomes resistant. But if you really wanna do this, jump in head first....stay on plan...and you can succeed!!

Also, your body holds enough carbs for typically about 48 hours so after those 2 days...you are burning FAT!!!!!!! yea!!!!!

I really hope this helps you out and remembr, you CAN do this...you CAN bring sexy back!! ahaha

Have a good night and welcome to ADBB

HA! Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. My husband says that... He is on his 3rd week of the P90X program. Have you heard of that? Man, that is not for the weak of heart.

Our family motto for the last 2 years has been "Eat till your thirsty and drink till your hungry!" We always get a good chuckle at that. I made it up myself. But things are different now and we are both on a new path.

Okay, here is a NUTHER question:

I have 30 pounds to lose until I am thin and lean. So, tho it is no small amount to lose, I am wondering if Atkins only works when you have a bigger amount to lose and then you have to go to something else to lose the last, oh, say 30 lbs. If that is the case, then I am already at that point and Atkins wouldn't be for me.

So basically, I am wondering if Atkins can get somebody down as lean as they want to go or does it stop at some point?

        Thanks, Jodi

Hey Jodi, welcome to this cool board.

Nope Ive only got 22 lbs to lose but had like 29/30 at the start which was a week ago. I just lost 7 in one week but did it by the book with no cheating. I think if i did cheat Id stall and not lose weight due to not having a huge amount to lose. I notice when Ive gained allot and have plenty to lose it comes off faster but i slow down when its not as much to lose anymore.

Stick with and do a clean induction and you will lose trust me... Im so happy Ive been so good. Its hard i wont lie but as I tell myself "keep your eye on the prize" remember the end result your looking for and how good you will look when you have gotten there.

Hi Jodi and welcome! Glad you found us here!

If you only want to lose a few lbs, Atkins works just as well, as long as it's done properly. You have to remember that the smaller the amount you need to lose, the slower will be that loss. I lost my first thirty pounds far quicker than the last ten... which took me the same time again, to lose. But eventually, the lbs came off and I went even lower than my original goal.

As for following the plan... yes, it really should be done the way Dr. Atkins set it out, for you to get maximum effect. Veggies are very important, even though in the induction phase these must be limited to three cups per day (two of salad veggies and one of other veggies on the acceptable induction list). Water is also ultra important. Drink masses and you'll lose quicker. Exercise is fundamental to this way of life... if you aren't used to exercising, then start slow and increase gradually. You might like to join one of the fun exercise challenges on this board. Some get quite addictive... and this from someone who dislkes exercise!!

Read the stickies in the induction forum which are very informative...but above all, I'd urge you to get a hold of a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition... which is the one the board goes by). Understanding how and why this way of eating works is an enormous help.

            Happy losing.

Re: Okay Atkins- Gonna bring SEXY back

              Jodi,
Funny you mention that P90X program. I was up last weekend (probably munching on chips and dip) and saw the infomercial for P90X. I know it looks extreme and hardcore, but it sounds like it is up my alley. Was your husband overweight when he started? I am 5'9", 220, and used to play football up thru high school. I have some bit of athleticism, but get winded quick...I just wondered if I could do it in the state that I am in? Curious to know what your thoughts are of it.
Best of luck to you, and everyone else in this forum. I am hoping to be on my way to looking "hot" to my wife...I've been considered "cute" in my chubby/fluffy state...for once i'd like to be considered "hot"....Best of luck in bringing sexy back...just starting this is one step in doing so!!

              Take care!

Re: Okay Atkins- Gonna bring SEXY back

Sally and Aussie: Thank you so much for the replies and I am going to take your advice. Today I am going to sign up at the YMCA. There is a brand new facility that is really, really nice and offers free childcare while you work out. A family membership is only $75 per month with no startup fees. That is REALLY cheap in Hawaii for a membership to a facility this nice. Also, I am falling in love with this board already... it is full of great people!

CCUBEDR6: As far as P90X is concerned, you really need to be prepared to commit yourself because it is HARDCORE. My husband has done it everyday without fail for 3 weeks, and follows the diet and drinks the protein recovery drinks. All of this works together. The P90X diet is basically a low carb diet structured in phases for very athletic people (since the physical aspect is so intense). In only three weeks, my husband has bulked up to the point that it is noticeable, and he has lost about 10 pounds while adding muscle, so that really shows. Adding muscle bulk is no easy task for my husband so that says alot for the program. Also, he did start out overweight. If I can be frank with you, our sex life has shot through the roof and after 7 years of marriage I find myself attracted to him again. It's AWESOME and I thank him everyday for doing it. His shoulders have gotten big and he is getting that upside down triangle shape which I am quite fond of. He has gone through 3 weeks of the first 90 days, so he still has a ways to go but is looking good so far. I know that he will continue because the results are very motivating, as is the freaky deaky, if you know what I mean.

On the downside, you or your wife will have to prepare meals that are high in nutrition, and taste great, but take time to make. I have three kids and I am on the Atkins diet, so I make a P90X meal for him, an Atkins meal for me and a child appropriate meal for the kids. I spend alot of time preparing meals these days.

I could not do the P90X program personally becuase I can not stay focused when I am in front of a TV exercising, but that is just me. I also cannot stay put long enough to watch a movie, so these sorts of programs just don't do it for me.

Lastly, my husband did a 6 day "kick start" diet which is basically a low carb diet that got his system into fat burning mode but because it was an induction type diet, but he didn't feel that great and had low energy. It was hard for him to do the P90X program during that period so it might be good to do that diet while waiting for the kit to arrive.I would be happy to give you a copy of the diet. It was mostly egg whites, lean meats and a Atkins portion of salad and nonstarchy vegetables but this diet cut down the calories as well as carbs. The P90X diet seems much more geared towards highly active lifestyles and though it is higher in the amounts of food and calories you can consume, you will not find breads or processed flour on it at all.

Okay, so I am not here to promote the program. I hope you have enjoyed the novel I have written. LOL...

Re: Okay Atkins- Gonna bring SEXY back

I am so glad that you like it here

As mentioned DANDR is the BEST thing to have when doing this diet. The basic jist of Atkins is you throw your body into ketosis (fat burning mode) and gradually increase healthy carbs until you find you CCLL. And carbs above your magic number will make you gain..stay at the number and you will maintain, and anything under you will lose...But the entire book explains how and when to 'cycle' through the phases...it's REALLY helpful. That's what makes Atkins different than anyother diet out there...it sets you up for success. You can keep this weight off on this plan b/c you know what your body needs.. I love it

That membership to the YMCA was a great idea...and you can't beat the daycare!!!

I really need to look into that program for my husband though b/c I think he would really enjoy it....maybe I will too ahaha

I am waiting to pick up my son at soccer and I was just reading your posts. I have fallen off the wagon and it is time to climb back on. I think I just got lazy..alot of times i just didn't have the right foods around. I also have gotten into the rut of not trying new recipes. I have not been crazy cheating, but just enough to have stalled the good things that were happening to my body. I am also dedicating the next few weeks to bringing sexy back. Thanks guys!

                            Wow Jodi!
Thanks for the insight on the program. I think I am going to see how well this Atkins thing goes, and once I shed a few pounds, I may consider it. I don't really want to add much muscle mass as I have a sturdy frame to begin with. I know I have some muscle, but its hidden under all my dirty laundry!
I may hit you up in the future in regards to the diet mentioned in the P90X plan. I have a feeling i'm going to like Atkins as I love all the food that is allowed. I just need to get past this "headache" phase. I had a killer one last night that knocked me out.
Best of luck to you and your future success!!
