  • Newbie to the Atkins

    Hey Everyone,
First off I want to start off by saying that everyone on this board is very inspirational. Whenever I need some encouragement I logged on and just read some of the post and it seems to help me through my day. I started Induction on the March. 29, 2007 and so far I have lost a total of 7 pounds. I started on the 29th b/c my birthday was two weeks away and I told myself that my short term goal was to be 10 pounds lighter on my birthday. My birthday is in 4 days. Hopefully, I will be able to meet this goal even if I don't I will still continue to press on. I have been at my 7 pound loss for over four days now and I am also in Ketosis but have not seen to be loosing anymore weight. Is this normal to be on a stand still like this? And do you guys have any suggestions on how to break through this meal-wise? Anyway any suggestions would be great. Though I have only begun, I know I have a long journey ahead of me and I know there will be rough times. Everyday I contimplate quiting but I still try to press on. Anyway thanks for listening everyone and thanks for the support.

      Welcome to ADBB!!!

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal. We call it Post Induction Stall Syndrome (P.I.S.S.) Basically your body has just lost a large amount of weight in a very short time..so it just needs to catch up. This diet has a diuretic effect at first, then switches over to fat burning after your carbohydrate stores have been used up (typically 48 hours). B/c you lose so much water the first few days, your body is compensating right now and your body is balancing out the water. You are still burning fat but until your body can sort everything out, the scale stays about the same..but the tape measurer will show you your progress. I do the SAME exact thing. Lose for the first 2 or 3 days, then stay still...maybe a few ounces here and there and then a week or 2 later (and this varies by person) your scale will catch up and move in the downward direction that we love to see!

My suggestion is...measure yourself so when that scale isn't reflecting those changes...you can still see them. Try on a pair of pants that were maybe too tight...take pictures. I do all of those things b/c I don't feel that the scale is the only true was to go. Plus...you always see some sort of results ad isn't that what we are working our a$$es off for, literally?!? LOL

I would keep on plan, stick to the book and basically do what you're doing. You have already lost 7 pounds and that means you must be doing something right!!

      I hope this helps!!!

      Once again, welcome!
