The best thing about this way of eating so far is that I don't get hungry in between meals - before I was just forever snacking on carbs.

I have high cholesterol and having it checked 17/4 so will see what has happened there!

Scooter - will check out the threads - Thank you.
Btw... re your cholesterol check... bear in mind that it can take several weeks (I think at least six) for the effects of Atkins to show up in your bloodwork; so don't get stressed if your results are not what you want, so early... or postpone your bloodwork for a while longer.

Actually, according to the Dr. Atkins' Carbohydrate Gram counter there are a couple of things you can nibble on. The best one, if you can stomach them, are Pork Rinds with 0.0 carbs per 20. I don't mind them in small amounts and I guess you could even crush them really fine and use them to coat chicken to give it a crispy crust. I know it sounds icky but I've seen chefs wrap chicken in bacon which is pretty much the same thing.

A word of warning about the pork rinds. Yes they are legal, but limit them to say a small handful a day, as they are high in salt and can cause you to retain water.

and dont they also contain loads of calories - someone said about not counting calories - but surely if the calorie intake is higher than you need - you wont lose?

also tell me its not true about carbs in black coffee - how can there be ? it says to limit the coffee because of caffeine but I am drinking it decaf and black.

feel like I have had my only vice taken away - lost the food - lost the fags and booze - not my coffee as well!!

Thanks Scooter! Guess I was lucky I lost weight then considering how much I drank

In fact have had a total munchy day today, nothing out of bounds - maybe just a bit too much , any how - tomorrow is another day, so will just draw a line under today and get on with it (actually had rhubarb and cream tonight - wow - it was Yummy!! )

                        Re: New UK Girl !

LOL , well to be quite honest didn't know what I was doing! but........I just washed it, cut it into about 1" pieces, added about a mug fullof water and some splenda - and then simmered it over a gentle heat for about 10 - 15 mins - Had enough there for tomorrow as well but I just ate it! ........with some othick cream with a tsp of splenda in it - lovely sweet and sour combination. Just dont let it burn! I am sure that I have totally totally blown the carbs today, but no choc, bread, croissants etc - my old WOE !! - so bearing in mind that really I have just eaten what I would have done before minus the bad bits I should be okay?maybe?

ps for dinner - chicken breast stuffed with a slice of pate and wrapped in 2 rashers of bacon cover in foil and bake in oven, and roast meditteranean veggies!

                          Hi!!

I buy frozen rhubarb from Sainsburys, and cook it in the microwave with water and splenda and it comes out really nice!! so you dont have to worry about burning it!! I normally burn everything!!!

your dinner sounds gorgeous!! I made a recipe *emma* told me about this evening - jalepeno peppers sliced in half, seeds removed, fill with cream cheese and then wrap in bacon and cook on 190-200 for 20 mins!! soooo nice!!! I was just in heaven eating them!!! I had to remind myself I was on a diet!! they're great if you like it "hot and spicey"!!! hehe!!

Hi Jane - the jalapeno peppers sound good I think - but arent they like the green chillies we use in curries - sounds very spicy to me,or could I use bell peppers, also can you just make sure that I am on the right track for cream cheese - are you talking about mascapone, ricotta, phillidelphia style cheese - shamefull that I sell all these things at work but never used them before! not too big on cheese as all previous diets have really excluded it and this new WOE is new!

                                hi

the peppers seem to lose some of their hotness when you cook them, but I like spicey things so probably dont notice how hot they really are!! are bell peppers the big ones?? yes in half they would taste gorgeous as a side dish!! mmmm

I use a similar cheese to Phili! its just Sainsburys own brand at a quarter of the price of Phili!! full fat cream soft cheese I think they call it - all of the supermarkets do their own version of it! mascapone and ricotta cant be used on induction, so i tend to steer clear of them!! ( but when you can have mascapone - try it mixed with splenda and some coffee granuels disolved in a couple of drops of water!!! its soo nice)

                                have a great weekend
