  • New to this site

Good morning everyone. I'm pleased to find a support group that is so responsive and supportive to eachother. I've been doing Atkins for a year and 3 months. I've lost 60 lbs and have gone down 5 sizes. I feel great, I look great, but I'm still 14-16 lbs short of my goal (depending on the day.) Since december I've been stuck in the same 3 lb range. I've tried analizing my eating, made some changes, increased water, etc... but still, no movement. I now drink anywhere between 64 - 96oz of water per day (this is new, maybe 3 weeks now). I do cardio and weight train 3-4 times a week. I did put on a few muscle lbs when I started working out again ( i had stopped for about 2 months). but I'm back in the rythm of excersise, water drinking, etc. I read some posts on another site and figured I wasn't consuming enough fat, so I increased fat by using more butter, cream cheese, threw in 1/2 an avocado here and there and layed the mayo on thick! still, no change. My clothes feel the same, so I don't think I'm losing inches either. What am I doing wrong? I haven't bought any kito sticks lately because even though I lost all that weight, my sticks were never any better than a hint of pink maybe 3 times in the last year! yet I lost... was I even in kitosis? I'm so frustrated. I sometimes think, let me just keep doing what I'm doing, and work on toning my body at the gym, but I feel my weight is not low enough to not pay attention to it anymore. how can I break out of this...

I'm too new to give you any advice, but you seem to be doing a great job! Just keep at it and maybe not worry so much about those extra pounds if you feel healthy and like the way you look.

Maybe the administrator's on this site can help.

Welcome to the boards..wow 60 lbs! That is fantastic! It may be just because you are so close to goal that the loss has slowed down. I am not real experienced with this kinda problem but I am sure alot of the folks that are at goal will come along with more advice.
Good luck and glad to see you here!!

Hiya! Welcome! Congratulations on your 60 lb loss! That's wonderful!

Weight loss slows substantially as we get near goal. Took me simply forever to lose the last few pounds.
Are you climbing the rungs of OWL, or are you in pre-maintenance?
What's your current weight? Could it be that you've actually hit the goal your body likes and needs to stay at? You could try testing your body fat to see... (I'm saying this, but have never actually done it myself, so correct me if I'm talking nonsense, anyone). A little more info would help though. Or... you could post a few menus in the Review My Menu section for a few experts to look over.

Hi Lola! Welcome to the board. It does sound like you're doing a fine job. The point is to slowly lose weight so that you can keep it off and maintain this way of eating for ever.

              Re: New to this site

Thank you all, I'm glad you are listening! I considered I was still on OWL since I never really prepared for pre-maintenance. My goal always seemed so far I never thought to "wrap it up," I just knew I'd be doing this forever! I'm 155 today, a pound up from my usual 154 plateau weight. I imagine like you said, I may be near a comfy point..but I have a hard time accepting that. I seem to be on induction forever, and I don't mind it, just that... NOW WHAT?
It's been a few months since I've stopped losing. I think since I'm so close, I'll need to increase cardio (grrrr..) and today is my first day in over 6 months that I'm not going to eat an Atkins Advantage bar (addicted to those...1 a day with my morning coffee) what a struggle it was to have coffee and no bar! so that would be my last step to eliminating the last possible carb I can..(because I certainly cannot drop the coffee and splenda!)

so, my new maneuver for the week - more cardio, no bars. wish me luck! and thank you!

erm does that mean that the ONLY carbs you are having are from coffee and splenda? - no salad or veggies?

                  Hi!

I am no expert but I'd definately suggest the same like Sally.

                  Go to this forum http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=50
and let them check your menu.

In your second thread you write about the bars. Maybe this is the truth behind it? Anyhow, let the old and wise ones help you and you will see that it will work.

I just had the idea that you might need more "good" fat like in salmon instead of mayo... Just a thought.

Keep it going, your weight loss until now is fantastic!

                    Re: New to this site

Uk Girl, I hardly ever have any salad or veggies anymore. I had a love spinach sauteed with butter and garlic and shitake mushrooms the other day and my scale didn't like that ONE BIT the next day! I'm in process of elimination right now. I'm thinking if I do a HARDCORE induction and leaving those few carbs for the coffee and the "oops i didn't notice" carbs, I figured I'd be safe.

Stargirl, I actually realized a few weeks ago I wasn't having enough fat in GENERAL.. so I've been trying to up that. I'm not big on fish at all, but I did add 1/2 avocado here and there. I've been using some heavy cream and increased my butter use as well.. I wasn't using it at all actually. I'm trying to recall my eating habbits earlier on in the diet when the pounds were melting off and seeing if that works. But in all honesty, I've never ever ever eaten really high fat with this. I used it as an "I'm ALLOWED to have fat," but usualy just really high protein and extrememly low carb - like what I'm doing now. I wonder if I ever really was in ketosis!

Umm... hardcore induction is strict by the book - *including* the veggies. Could you have been retaining water from something you ate during the day? a lot of people notice they start losing when they increase the carb counts, so if you're still on induction, and you're this close to goal, you may want to try that. I would also suggest tracking your foods in a program that shows your percentages and make sure that those are correct. Good luck.

Sallyseachange.. a typical day for me is as follows:

Bfast: Atkins Bar (max 3 net cabs) cup of coffe with 2 splenda & 2 tbsp sugar free french vanilla creamer (4 carbs)

Mid-morning: 2 fried eggs, 4 slices bacon, 1 slice muenster cheese (coffee)

Lunch: 4 -5 slices deli meat & atkins shake occasion salad

                        mid-day: coffee

evening: either steak, chicken, pork - occasional broccoli

My body fat is at 27% was 31% 60 lbs ago. Am I not losing enough fat? I do reistance training 2 - 3 x's a week and cardio at least 3x's. I keep being told to increase cardio, but does it really come down to that???

If I were you, I would cut out the Atkins Bar and Shake (they're known to stall people), and the french vanilla creamer (switch to heavy cream). I would also add my veggies in. Exercise is non-negotiable and cardio will help to break a stall, so yeah, it can come down to that as to whether you stay the same or lose.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. In DANDR, you're supposed to have 2 cups of salad veggies & 1 cup other induction friendly veggies to make up your carb counts *on induction*. The first rung is to add more veggies, which you should be doing at some point so you can move up all the rungs to make this a way of life, and something you can stick with forever instead of yo-yoing.
