  • Hello, I'm Just started

I started doing the adkins on Monday April 2 - I walk 3 miles a day, back and forth every day. Funny thing, I thought just because I walked everyday I could eat whatever I wanted - WRONG. So know, not only do I walk every day, I've started working out 45 minutes a day as well.

This is what I've been eating during induction:

Morning - 2 hard boiled eggs
Coffee and 1/2 a cup of half and half cream (I know - very bad, I'll start removing it).

Snack - 2 slices of cheese

Lunch - 2 cups of tuna or chicken

    Usually I'm so full

    Drinking 70oz of water.

By dinner I'm still full, so I'll have a few olives stuff with garlic.

    5/10 F

SW: TBD - I'm weighing in tomorrow

    CW: TBD

    GW: 145
    I'm 36, F and 5/10
    Started 5/31/08 current stats
    SW 165/CW 165/GW 150
    15 lbs to goal.

Welcome to the spotlight Colirina, my name is Scooter, and I am pleased to meet you! Well afte reviewing what you've been eating I have to ask.....

Why are you starving yourself dear!!! You need to pick up a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition. The way you are eating is not Atkins, it's kind of sorta is, but honestly there's a lot of grey area there.

Prior to getting your book, you need to read this link:

    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782

    and this one:

    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781

The first one is the Rules of Induction, and the second one is Acceptable Foods for induction. You are missing your mandatory 3 cups of veggies, induction is very important, actually clean induction is very important to the Blueprint of this way of life, that Dr Atkins set up for us!

It is wonderful to have you with us, and by all means, we are willing to assist you in any way we can. But I highly recommend picking up a copy of DANDR and you may have greater understanding of how the plan works. You could forcing your body into starvation mode if you continue the way you are eating!

If you need some ideas for recipes, try this site:

    http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

Once again, I do welcome you to the ADBB board, make your way around and check out some of the forums and threads. There is alot of interesting information (in the form of sticky's) in each forum, containing helpful tidbits by other members, that you will find of great importance!

Don't be a stranger, post those questions, and keep us all updated on your progress!

      Re: Hello, I'm Just started

Thanks for the reply scooter. I have read the book from cover to cover and I've done adkins (2003) before. I don't feel that I'm straving myself, I'm just not used to all the food I'm eating. I've been drinking a lot of water and with all the things I'm eating, I don't have room for more right now. I guess my body is going through some changes. Prior to starting adkins, all I at were salads and lots of veggies, candy and junk food. I actually gain weight from it, now I've gone on the opposite end.

I must say, that I've been feeling really tired since I started thise diet and/or lifestyle.

I will start to add more veggies after week 3, at least one cup of veggies. It's interesting, prior to this diet, after a workout I would get so hungry and stop by Wendy's, now since I've started, other then feeling sleepy, I have no desire for food, so I force myself to eat olives.

        Re: Hello, I'm Just started

Welcome to the board Colirina. Glad you found us here.

Re your menu... you really should add the veggies in immediately. Waiting three weeks is too long... you need those vits and mins and the carbs in those veggies. Keeping carbs below 20 g/day is not eating no carbs per day. If you eat too little, you will go into starvation mode and your body will conserve like crazy... your weight loss will slow down dramatically or stop altogether.

Keep us in the know as to how you get along. We're behind you all the way.

OK, So I finally went on the scale, and it's not as bad as I thought. I thought I was about 175, but with all the working out this week, I'm at 167.

My concern about adding more veggies, is that I'm been adding 1/2 cup of cream in my coffee and according to fit day, that's about 14 carbs. So, now I'm going to cut back. I just bought some salad and I'm going to make sure to measure, no more then 2 cups. Thank you all for your support.

Hi colirina! Of course, my first words of wisdom will be EAT YOUR VEGGIES! you should be having 2 cups of "salad veggies" not just lettuce. Look up the approved list of salad veggies (cukes, celery, radish etc.) In addition to that you need to be eating one cup of other veggie from the approved list (cauliflower, broccoli etc...).

As you move up the "rungs" of adding foods to your diet, you will see that more veggies is Rung 1. Don't be afraid of them, your body needs them, they will not make you gain weight. We move up the rungs for a reason. To eat this way properly, moving up the rungs is the only way to maintain this lifestyle.

Hi Colirina. Just some words. I don't know about everyone else here but myself, if I accidentally take in some sugars, I'll get tired and sleepy. The fact that you said that this diet is making you tired makes me think that maybe you're taking in some sugars somewhere that may be hidden to you. The last time I tried this diet, I felt tired a lot and got discouraged. I later found out that my Atkins bars and some dextrose in my Johnsonsville brauts were taking me out of ketosis. May I suggest buying some Keto-Stix and test your urine. They're about $15.00 at your local pharmacy. If you do a urine test on the strip and they're not dark purple, you're shootin' yourself in the leg with something that you're allowing. Better to be strict and lose fast in my book.

Darth and Funny Guy, thanks for welcoming me.
I've been very strick, I think I've been working out really hard 5 days a week and I'm not used to it (45 minutes on the eliptical trainer), 100 abs crunchs and walking to work a total of 3 miles. I can already see my face thining out. However, being Italian, I have a big butt. . I've also join a softball team that plays once a week, so I'll still be able to get at least 5 days of working out. So by the time I get home, I can barely crawl into bed, but I've been sleeping like a baby, where as before I could barely sleep for more then a few hours and I was irritable. Now I feel very relaxed, nothing bothers me. I'm so glad I joined ADBB, I've gotten so much insight and inspriation. Since I only weigh in once a week, here are my stats:

                      Re: Hello, I'm Just started

                      Hi Colirina!

I just can repeat the same thing like the others: Follow the plan or you will go into the starvation modus which will stall your weight loss. And your body will switch to proteinburning instead of fatburning, so you will loose the wrong parts of your body! Additional it is a big risk in eating this one dimensional: You will probably get bored after a while and the risk for cheating is grooooowing while being bored!

                      Check out this link:
                      http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781
and follow it. You don't have to eat large amounts of everything, but eat.

Concerning the heavy cream (>35% fat) you may eat (or drink) 3 oz per day. Measure it in the morning and have it during the day in your coffee if you want (by the way, coffee isn't that induction friendly...). Get some variety in your breakfast and skipp the cream cheese as it is EITHER 3 oz heavy cream OR one oz cream cheese per day.

Make sure you are getting enough fat (butter while preparing a steak, olivoil on your sallads), Atkins won't work without fat! Your are working out a lot, the same do I, and I realized that my workout level is going down when I am not eating enough, especially fat. I have had some problems getting in the fat as I don't like pork, and chicken, shrimps or fish don't have a lot of fat. Therefore I am always taking 1 tbps olivoil on my sallads, I am having the 3 oz of heavy cream and I try to have warm smoked salmon 2-3 times a week. It is dripping of fat and it makes me feel very good to get an Omega 3 injection...

I understand your problem with the water, sometimes I feel like having a swimming pool in my stomach... but you need to eat anyhow.

Sorry for sounding like a mummy, I hope you get it right. I have read several times that people on Atkins forget to eat and that is not what we are supposed to do! One lady wrote in a thread that she is using a timer to remind her to eat on certain times of the day. Maybe this would work for you aswell? Once again - you don't have to eat tons of food, just eat what your body needs the most of: 1st fat, 2nd protein and 3rd your 20 g carbs.

Keep it going, this is so great for you!

Hi All, I found out why I was so tired and had/have heartburn. It turns out there's a virus going around in the office. 4 other people have the symtoms. I'm making sure that I get a total of 4 cups of veggies a day. Can't wait this Saturday, it's my weigh in date:
