  • thinking about starting atkins

ive never done atkins because for a very long time i was vegetarian so it was pretty much impossible, and i'd heard how "bad" it is for you - but i have quite a few friends that have successfully done atkins.

i plan on starting monday since i will be starting a new job in a new city & state. kind of like a brand new beginning.

i would really appreicate if anyone could give me some advice on what has worked for them, or any pointers that might help me in anyway.

im 25 years old and moved to st. louis, mo from florida about 6 weeks ago to live with my boyfriend. so far its been the best thing ive ever done and i think it would be fantastic if i could add losing weight to my list of incredible things that have happened since ive been here.

    i look forward to this!

First thing - buy the book and read it. It is a wonderful source of information/ guidance.

This is - by far - the most exciting way of life (you'll see abbreviated as WOE) ever. And that is what it becomes. The first two weeks can be hard - don't kid yourself... but the rewards are incredible!!!

You've done a great thing - logging on here - the folks here are great with support and guidance!! Don't hesitate to ask questions - that's what they/we are here for!!

The best thing to do this weekend - is to empty your house of the evil (hee-hee, read : sugar). Stock up on some legal snacks.

You can lose up to 20% of your desired weight loss in the first month. It kind of slows down after that. Up your exercise to push over the times of stalling. Make sure that you drink LOTS of water (your body needs water to break down fat!!!)

Give yourself a hug - because you are a wonderful person!! Please let us know if we (I) can help at all! (I'm a Florida girl myself - graduated in Ocala...many years ago!)

    Restart -10/18/2009 - 204.6 lbs (UGH!!!)
    Goal 1 - under 200 - met 10/19/2009
    Goal 2 - 190 - met 10/25/2009
    Goal 3 - 180
    Goal 4 - 170
    Goal 5 - 160
    Goal 6 - 150
    Goal 7 - 140
    Goal 8 - 135
Goal - To zip up current pants without sucking it in-10/25/09
Goal - To need a belt/roll waistband of current pants
Goal - To wear the next size down - 11/13/09
Goal - To wear the next size down - without a muffin top!! 11/18/09
Goal - To wear 'those' jeans (ya know - the ones in the back of the closet, hidden under a winter coat)
    Day 13 - wine free/ cheat free

What she said! - Read DANDR in advance, go to the grocery store and make sure you have lots of quick snack type meal things for induction, get an exercise plan put together that you feel is realistic for you to stick to, buy a new water bottle (because shopping's fun and they come in pretty colors, and you're going to be drinking a lot of it).

Also, take your "before" pictures, in a bikini, bike shorts, fully clothed, whatever. If you don't, you'll wish you had. Trust me on that one. Go to mybodycomp.com and take your starting measurements. umm.. I think that's all the advice I can give at 12.30a.

i took my body shots last night and seriously almost passed out. i mean i know im big, but OH WOW i had no IDEA i was so large.

my boyfriend has told me that he is going to be my "personal chef" so that the foods are correct and i dont try and sneak something in there haha.

i get excited when i think about it because viewing the board i see a lot of success, and i really need to see that right now.

          thank you!

Yeah, we're awesome. You can always come over to Journal Chats and write about things that are going on, how you're doing on a day to day basis and have us crazy nuts leave you notes...

Just stash the pics in a drawer or something, look back at them a month from now and go "oh Wow! Look how much smaller I am!".

Your BF read the book, right?

                Re: thinking about starting atkins

Hi adp! Welcome to the board. How cool is it that you have a "personal chef"! Tofu is high protein! I actually eat lots of it (although never was a vegetarian!). I like it with just a little Splenda and cinnamon on it for a treat! Or, I fry it up in some butter until it's crunchy!

Glad to hear you will get "the book" this weekend. It will become your best friend, that's for sure!

                  Re: thinking about starting atkins

Hi there Adp... glad you decided to start your Atkins adventure. Welcome! You're so lucky to have a "personal chef"!! What luxury! Sounds like you've picked a winner.

I'd ditto everything the others said but I did want to warn you about one thing...
Don't get me wrong... I'm really loathe to tell anyone to put off starting Atkins, but you should know that some people feel under the weather the first few days of the diet with what we call "induction flu". This is when the body weans itself off carbs and begins to burn fat.
You mentioned that you're starting a new job. Often, during the first week of a new job one tries to impress the bosses and show everyone what one's capable of. Would it be wise to have the first week of a new career coinciding with a spell of "induction flu"?

Sorry... it's none of my business I know, and maybe your new job is not the kind that will cause you "first week jitters". If so, ignore what I said and jump right into this way of eating. I just wanted to make sure you knew that you might not be up to par the first few days.

Ask any questions you might have... tour the board, make friends and join in stuff. It's all motivating and really helpful.

Looking forward to reading about your successes.

Holy Cow! I graduated from Vanguard! LOL! That is just TOO funny! 'course, it was a few (many) years ago!! That was actually before the new Forest was built, when the sink hole opened up in the old school. (okay - REALLY showing my age there!)

That is just too funny! Anyway - I'm so glad that you found this board! It is such a wonderful place to get support, ask questions, get menu ideas (yummy!!)

                    Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!!
