  • Here We Go.

Hello everyone. I started Atkins on Monday the 2nd of April and I feel pretty good. I've never needed a support group for anything but with dieting, I guess it won't hurt, plus you guys have these trackers and that's cool. 5 days has equaled 5 lbs for me. I'm drinkin' about 100 oz of water a day, if not more (Arizona) and it's working. Of course, I am being super strict and not taking in a gram of sugar. I'm glad everyone is so generous with their sharing of knowledge. I failed on this diet last time and plateaued fast because of 2 atkins bars a day. I just learned that they are the cause of my failure last, due to this helpful site. No atkins bars has kept me losing fast. Thank You and good luck to you all.

Hi there! Welcome to the ADBB! Atkins bars are the kiss of death for many people. So is too much sweetner, or sugar alcohols that can be found in a lot of low carb prepackaged foods. I personally have lots of problems with sugar alcohols. But it is really great that you learned what got you off track last time. If you would like to join a club, there is a thread in the forums called the Second time around Club.

Click on this link to get to the second time around forum. You will meet people who have tried Atkins two or more times. It gives a great deal of support to people who are looking for friends who face similar challenges.

Also to get yourself really into the fat burning mode, think about joining an exercise challenge! Go to the exercise forum and look around You are welcom anywhere you go! So browse around and see what fits you and your goals!

Again, welcom and happy low carbing!

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

          Re: Here We Go.

The excercise challenge. There in lies a huge problem for me. Even though I am heavy, I am athletic and go to a gym every once in awhile. I don't know how you guys do it. I will cramp up immediately on whatever body part I'm isolating. Eliptical machine, legs will literally tense up and feel like I'm the verge of a pull. I can usually put the sleds all the way up at level 10 for a half hour at 140 intensity, but not on Atkins. I was told to drink more water, which is rediculous for me 'cause I drink so much water as it is. I was told to take additional potassium on top of my multi-vite and it didn't work. A so called expert told me to take liquid potassium 'cause it would go to the muscle faster, still cramped. I've never cramped a muscle in my life but on this diet, my quads flex and tense with bar bells or aerobic activity. I know a lot of people who can excercise on this diet but I can't find the key to keep from pulling muscles. Even if I flex my bicep real hard, I can strain it. Wierd huh.

            Welcome to ADBB!!

Maybe the exercise bit has to do with what you are/aren't eating. Try posting some menus in the "Review My Menu" section and we'll see what we can come up with!

Congrats on ditching those bars...they're evil...worse than candy bars! UGH!

                Re: Here We Go.

As far as the exercise is concerned, try starting out with small changes. Every little bit helps. Walking is a good exercise to start with and as you buid up strength you may be able to add new exercises. Keep at it.

Welcome to ADBB Darth... glad to have you aboard.

You are soooooo wise to ditch the bars. They stall so very many. I'm sure this time you'll have better results.

It is odd about your cramping with exercise. I'd ditto what Juli says... try posting a few menus in the "Review my Menu" forum. It might just shed some light on this.

                  Happy Atkineering!

My body is used to excercise. For example, once I trained for 3 months to ride in the Cactus Cup Mountain Bike Race here in Phoenix. It was 7 miles uphill and 7 down. No problem, finished in the middle of the pack and all was great. I was on my way to my target weight so I started on Atkins. I got on my bike and cramped within 60 seconds of going uphill. My legs were conditioned to do this, yet my endurance fell away and I cramped. Another words, building up my excercise routine is not the problem. It's something much more weird in my opinion. I'm a pretty strong guy and at the very least, a challenging eliptical machine workout is nothing for me normally, just not now.

Typical menu day: Breakfast= Sugar Free Dextrose Free Sausage Link with about 4 eggs +sugar free Multi vitamin.
Lunch= Carls Jr. Lo-Carb Burger no ketchup or tomatoe+plenty of lettuce.
Dinner=Chicken Wings, Frank Red Hot, sugar free Ranch, celery stick.
For this first week, I checked my ketone levels in the morning and at night and I've been in ketosis in large amounts (dark purple/brown) and losing a pound a day.

Seems about right to me. What do you guys think?
